  • Pocketshooters on Angles
It’s actually kind of amazing how the simple act of varying the angle of your shots, even just a tiny bit can change the entire “feel” of a photograph. And considering the fixed-lens nature of mobile phone photography, using this technique can help you break away from the same compositions that else is doing. In this episode we dive into the why’s and how’s of creating interesting compositions by just moving around a bit.

TWiP Weddings 053: Making Great Photos in Crappy Locations
While every wedding photographer would love to book weddings that only happen in beautiful locations, the reality is that many weddings take place in less than ideal locations when it comes to photography. From dark churches and cluttered getting ready rooms, to harshly lit outdoor ceremony locations and uninspiring community halls, wedding photographers are still expected to come away with beautiful images for their clients. Today we’re going to share some of our worst location horror stories and provide some tips and advice for making great photos in less than ideal locations.

  • AlphaMirrorless 041: Creating Panoramic Images
    AlphaMirrorless 041: Creating Panoramic Images
Spurred by the suggestion of one of our listeners, Juan and Andy share all their knowledge and experience creating panoramic images. Making panos is pretty easy but it can also be somewhat tricky. Listen to Juan and Andy as they make creating panoramic images easy.
Announcement: Juan and Andy are taking a short break from the weekly podcast schedule. This means that there will not be podcasts released on December 26 and January 2nd. However we will return the the normal weekly schedule on January 9. Happy Holidays!
For those more attentive podcast listeners, you may have noticed that we swapped the releases of episodes 041 & 042. We did that because we wanted to get the a6500 video out to you guys as soon as we produced which meant pushing this episode, which we had recorded earlier a week back. Hope you don’t mind.
We don’t always have all the answers, but if we don’t we will research it and try to give you the best answer we can. So what have you got to lose, go ahead and send in your questions to us by going to this form.

  • Pocketshooters on Zooming
As you may already be aware, the new iPhone 7 Plus comes with a brand new camera design. A dual lens set-up that lets you zoom in on your subject or composition with near professional level quality results. Zooming as a feature of cameras is not new, though this particular feature is new to mobile phone photography (Pocketshooting).
But just because you “can” do a thing, does that mean that you should? The answer isn’t quite that simple when it comes to zooming. In this episode, we discuss zooming as it applies to the Pocketshooter and when (and when not) to use this powerful feature.

  • TWiP Apps 20: HoudahGeo; Like Pins on a Map…But Better
    TWiP Apps 20: HoudahGeo
What would it take to put your photos on the map? Apparently not much more than a GPS logger and a curiously named app called HoudahGeo. Seeing every photo you’ve made populate a globe on your screen is a fantastic way to relive old memories, find photos based on where, not when, and simply explore your photo library from a whole new dimension. Very few cameras outside of our Android and iPhones have GPS built-in, but with the addition of a little piece of hardware or even an app on your smartphone, you can record precisely where every photo was taken, every time. It’s easy. It’s fun. And it’s from Houdah Software.
Join me, PhotoJoseph, for this episode of TWiP Apps with guest Pierre Bernard, Founder of HoudahGeo.
    Website: www.houdahgeo.com
Platform: HoudahGeo is available on macOS 10.10 or later.
    Guest App Pick: Posterino

  • Looping Content with Troy Plota – TWiP Talks 62
In this interview I sit down with the President of PlotaTech LLC, Troy Plota. Their first (and flagship) effort Plotagraph Pro is a revolutioary piece of software that enables creative professionals to add fluid movement to ordinary static images. You may recall that I interviewed Troy back in June before the launch of the software. You can check that interview out here.
This is not your dads old “cinemagraph” or “animatged GIF” tech, his is something entirely new. The software implements some very smart algorithims to seamlessly add motion to distinct areas of any still photograph. For example, say you took a stunning sunset over the ocean image in Hawaii a few years back. Wouldn’t it be great to have those waves actually move? Or how about a more abstract shot of buildings in a New York City scene, imagine having the bricks in those buildings come alive and start moving — ala Doctor Strange! This software enables all of that, and a ton more.
    About Troy Plota
Troy Christopher Plota has shot for major Fashion and Advertising brands around the world. Troy has been on the forefront of Digital Photography since its inception, his passion for Photography started at the age of 13 and he is now a leader in the realm of Dynamic Content and the President of PlotaTech LLC. Troy currently lives in New York City.

    AlphaMirrorless 042: Video Review & Comparison Of The Sony Alpha a6500, a6300 & a6000
Here at the AlphaMirrorless podcast, we are very excited about the new Sony a6500 that recently started shipping. We have started to put the camera thru it’s paces and we wanted to share with you our thoughts as well as give you a comparison of the new a6500 against the a6300 and the a6000. For this we created a special video highlighting some of these new features as well as comparing some of the ergonomic differences between these cameras.
Take a listen to the episode and then watch the video for a hands on review of the camera. Enjoy!

Winner of our Mindshift Gear Photo Backpack Giveaway
Congratulations to David Welfelt for being the winner of the new Mindshift Gear Trailscape 18L photo backpack. David submitted this great image to our AlphaMirrorless Facebook Page.
    Wishes of the Week

    * Juan: One thing I discovered is that when you connect an hdmi to the camera, the built-in lcd screen turns off. I wish I was able to control that.
    * Andy: Sony updates firmware on other cameras to allow the LCD screen to be turned off, like on the a6500. Very useful for long exposures and also for timelapses.

    Picks of the Week

    * Juan: Apple AirPods (these will be great for travel) available for order today.
    * Andy: Zeiss Touit 12 for the a6XXX series. Several were using it for aurora and star shooting in the Yukon last week, it performed great and the photos were amazing!
