  • Images From Electrons – ITL 02
Images From Electrons – ITL 02

Our desire to see more and more detail on a microscopic scale eventually hits limitations of light itself. Where photons fail, electrons take over and allow us to create images of unbelievably small things. Cells and viruses, even small clusters of atoms, electron microscopes reveal tiny universes for scientific value. Many of these images can be beautiful, and we talk with Ted Kinsman about how they work, why they’re needed, and how you work with such extreme imaging equipment. Ted Kinsman uses electron microscopes to create images for education, but builds beauty into his work to captivate viewers. Get ready for a very geeky conversation!

  • Color Science with Ray Maxwell – ITL 03
Color Science with Ray Maxwell – ITL 03

Color science is difficult to wrap into an understandable conversation, and there isn’t anyone better to help us get a handle on the peculiar nature of human vision than Ray Maxwell. This conversation winds around a number of topics, from how camera sensors are designed, how printers work, and how our eyes perceive the world around us. As photographers, a greater understanding of color science can spark creative ideas and help us overcome technical problems… but it’s also fun to simply geek out over it!
Note: There was some audio issues with the recording near the beginning of the conversation and a few sentences needed to be cut or reconstructed. Sorry about that!

  • TWiP Talks 61: Bundle of Joy
In this episode I speak with Griffin Stewart and Cowin Heibert, both are part of the team behind the industry-leading package deal team called 5DayDeal. I’ve particiapted in their promotion for the past few years and I’m continually amazed at how such a small and focused team is able to move mountains. Generating millions of dollars, consistently over such a short time is almost like marketing magic.

Fotodiox just recently released the FUSION Smart AF Adapter to adapt Nikon Lenses to the Sony E mount. While there have been other adapters for Nikon lenses this is the first one that promises full AutoFocus and exposure functionality with the Sony E mount system. While neither Juan nor Andy have had the opportunity to try this adapter out themselves, Marc Muench, our trusted friend has so we dragged him into the podcast so that he could share with all of us his experience with this much anticipated adapter.
But we are not yet done with this episode, after the talk with Marc, Andy talks to us about his recent computer system upgrades and how he decided to tackle his image storage and backup issues, while Juan shares with us his thoughts on the recent uproar on Apples decision to forgoe established USB3 and Thunderbolt port on the newest MacBook Pro laptops in favor of USB-C; also known as “Donglegate”.

  • Behind the Shot 03: The Aurora with Ken Sklute
Ken Sklute is a photographer in a very rare group. As a Canon Explorer of Light, Ken is one of less than 50 people that travel the world sharing their passion and expertise with people like you and I.

He has enjoyed a diverse career photographing people, professional sports, architecture, weddings and landscapes. Ken spends much of his time photographing, teaching and lecturing both Nationally and Internationally. During his 42 year professional photography career he has accomplished the title of “Photographer of the Year” in 32 out of 42 years in the states of New York, Arizona and California. He is an educator and lecturer who also runs his own workshops. One of his passions is weather. He’s a balloon pilot, an avid storm chaser, and loves to chase the Aurora.

His list of accomplishments is amazing:

    15 Fuji Masterpiece awards

    Kodak Mentor

    Epson Mentor

    Adobe Influencer

    Oakley

    Associated Press

    National Dragster

  • Pocketshooters on Printing
In this episode it’s all about printing! Should you print? Or should you keep it “digital”.
It seems like fewer and fewer people are actually taking the time to print their photographs these days. And for good reason – it’s far easier (and more efficient) to share photos via social media, texting or email. But consider for a moment how impactful a tactile, physical print would be.
With a few tips and tools that we share in this episode you’ll see just how easy it is to free your photos from the digital world, and release them to roam freely in the physical world.

    TWiP Apps 19: Aperture Exporter
Many Apple Aperture users are still lamenting the loss of their beloved app, holding on as tightly as they can, but knowing that eventually… they will have to let go. Today’s podcast isn’t about helping you to decide where to go, but, how to get there. Any decision you make will be a bitter pill to swallow, but to keep you out of the rabbit hole, may I recommend you take… the blue pill. Aperture Exporter by Blue Pill Software is an app that does as the name implies — it exports from Aperture. Your original photos, adjusted photos, metadata, and more, into a universal format that any app can read. No, your adjustments aren’t coming along for the ride but your adjusted images, are.
Join me, PhotoJoseph, for this episode of TWiP Apps with guest Adrian Grah, owner of Blue Pill Software Ltd.
