This Week's Apocalypse

This week we do something a little different and ruminate on the cynical nostalgia trend in cinema of the last few decades, and accidently write a pilot for a Ghostbusters TV show...

John and Kevin are trapped in a very bad escape room, and no amount of class revolution or Mad Murder Machines are going to get them out!

This week's movies and time stamps:

0:04:50 - Sidney Lumet - 12 Angry Men (1957)

0:25:10 - Luis Buñuel - The Exterminating Angel (1962)

0:50:25 - James Wan - Saw (2004)

1:10:00 - Decision Time! (spoilers)

Life gets in the way and finds a way as we deviate from our normally scheduled programming this week to talk about the impact, both good and bad, of The Blair Witch Project (1999) on horror cinema

In which Kevin tries to explain the plot of Cool World to John, fails, tries again, then gives up...

This week's movies and time stamps:

0:02:55 - Ralph Bakshi - Cool World (1992)

0:17:45 - Henry Selick - Monkeybone (2001)

0:40:30 - Robert Zemeckis - Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)

1:03:50 - Decision time! (Spoilers)

The Alexa is out to get them, and there's an air of evil in this sinister abode! John and Kevin investigate the history of evil houses in cinema, and get only a little bogged down in trying to remember what 2001: a Space Odyssey was really about...

This week's movies and timestamps:

0:04:10 - Luca boni, Marco Ristori - House of Evil (2017)

0:20:20 - Stuart Rosenberg - The Amityville Horror (1979)

0:37:40 - Donald Cammell - Demon Seed (1977)

0:59:22 - Decision Time (Spoilers!)

The movies make everything look easy, right? Well, maybe not so much, as John and Kevin out that maybe movie bank robbers don't always have the best laid plans...

This week's movies and Time Stamps:

0:03:50 - Katheryn Bigelow - Point Break (1991)

0:17:30 - Michael Mann - Heat (1995)

0:37:23 - Sidney Lumet - Dog day Afternoon (1975)

1:00:58 - Decision Time! (Spoliers!)

It's that time of year again (the beginning) when we look back on all the movies we've sat through for the last 12 months, and wallow in that headiest of brews, Fresh Nostalgia!

Special thanks to John Carpenter for not suing us yet (or perhaps just not knowing we exist).

John and Kevin made a Lurgan mistake, and now they're trapped in the barren wastes, surrounded by burrowing worm beasts.

There's only one thing left to do! Watch three movies, and figure out a way to get out before they have to deal with the locals!

This week's movies and time stamps:

0:04:00 - Denis Villeneuve - Dune (2021)

0:26:30 - David Lynch - Dune (1984)

0:45:00 - Ron Underwood - Tremors (1990)

1:00:39 - Decision Time!

T'is the Season to cower in fear!

John and Kevin are on the naughty list, and Monster Santa has landed on the roof.

It's too late to change their ways, but maybe cinema can give them away to wriggle out of their just desserts...

This week's movies and time stamps:

0:06:10 - Dick Maas - Sint (2010)

0:21:52 - Michael Dougherty - Krampus (2015)

0:37:10 - Jalmari Helander - Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)

0:56:00 - Decision time!

Social distancing is proving to be impossible in an airtight, metal box in space, so John is going to need to find a more practical way to deal with Kevin's alien-acquired infection.

Kevin isn't a fan of "fire" as a cure, so perhaps John watching 3 films can substitute for a medical degree...

This week's movies and time stamps:

0:06:10 - Ridley Scott - Prometheus (2012)

0:23:30 - Ruairi Robinson - The Last Days On Mars (2013)

0:38:53 - James Gunn - Slither (2006)

0:57:55 - Decision Time!
