  • A man is for life, not just for Movember

In this episode I share my thoughts and opinions around the Movember movement and the great work that it has done to raise awareness and funds for Men's mental Health and suicide prevention, Prostrate and Testicular Cancer.

I also look to use this platform as a means to raise awareness for men's mental health and suicide prevention by taking a very honest and frank look at why men don't feel comfortable opening up about their feelings and struggles, how we can be on the look out for signs of deteriorating mental health in ourselves and others.

I also scratch the surface of the role of masculinity in our modern society.

  • Its okay to be a man

Sometime ago I heard a report on the news that the Labour leader, Sir Kier Stammer made a pledge, that should the his party come into power they would seek to introduce to the national curriculum, behavioural lesson specifically aimed at boys and young men, with a view to teach them how they should behave and treat girls and women.

We all know that violence towards women is unacceptable, violence towards anyone is unacceptable, but to continue to target all boys and men and to continue with this narrative that by being male you are inherently toxic is also not acceptable.

In this episode I look to address my concerns around this continued trend of handing over our freedoms, power, authority and autonomy to the governments of this world, if we look back through history, and we don't have to look to far, we can clearly see that one of the tactics of oppressive and totalitarian states is to get to the children first. I also look to address my concerns that further power is being handed over to the schools, not just in this instance, but also with the pushing of woke ideologies that maybe you just don't want your children being exposed to.

I set out a number of core principles that I believe every man should strive for, not just in bringing up his children, but as a way of life.

  • The importance of finding your voice
In this episode I have the pleasure of welcome a my good friend Sam Simmons on to the podcast. Following on from episode 1, Sam & I hope to build upon the good work of many organisations that are working hard to break down the stigma and barriers around men’s mental health. We hope this conversation will be the first of many and that Sam & I will led by example in showing men that there is nothing weak in speaking the truth about challenges, difficulties and concerns. • Judgement & Forgiveness

In this episode I attempt to tackle my thoughts around judgement and forgiveness. We seem to live a world nowadays that finds the act of judgement far easier then that of forgiveness, in fact I would go further to suggest that many of us enjoy judging others, after all, how else would you explain the rise of reality "talent" tv shows.

Forgiveness is not a weakness, in fact I would suggest that it is a powerful tool and the ability to give forgiveness is one of the many virtues of genuine masculinity.

  • Lets get SMART about this

In this episode I share my thoughts around setting goals and how to actually achieve them. The realization that the first three months of the year have already gone and that time is not our friend.

I also tackle the victimhood mentality and why it is our fault that we are where we are in our lives, but that we can change our outcomes if we are prepared to do the work and put the in the effort.

  • A man takes care of what he loves
Welcome to the first ever episode of Thoughts of a bearded man. This podcast has been a long time in the making. In this episode I share my thoughts that were provoked by an image and quote I saw on Facebook. This quote states that men take care of what they love. While this is a very true and admirable quality of true masculinity, for me it threw into sharp relief that as men we do not take care of ourselves, mostly because we have not been equipped to recognise, process and use our emotions in a positive way. Many men have been brought up with the old adage of “big boys don’t cry” and in later years, any attempt to open up to other men is met with cries of “you just need to man up”. This podcast is intended to equip, empower and embolden men to embrace every aspect and essence of their masculinity. I hope you enjoy the episode and will join on me on this journey as I finally launch my podcast.
