I just finished a book by Annaka Harris titled, “Conscious: A Brief Guide to the Fundamental Mystery of the Mind“. Right off the bat (no pun intended), like a seasoned author, she defines what she is discussing. She points to our most basic understanding of consciousness – which was proposed by philosopher Thomas Nagel:

“The most basic definition of consciousness is that given by the philosopher Thomas Nagel in his famous essay “What Is It Like to Be a Bat?,” and it is how I use the word throughout this book.”

There isn’t a consensus on the When and What of AI.

When will this change happen (if ever)?

What will this change mean for the future of humans?

I happen to agree with Naval that you don’t necessarily have to finish a book, right away or even at all, in order to appreciate content within a book. Find ideas. Look for understanding. When you find something interesting in a book, put it down, then research it a bit.

And don’t feel bad that you didn’t finish the book. Move on to another one to find even cooler ideas.

I recently found out about a cool book series called Very Short Introductions from Oxford University Press. Each book in the series tackles a subject, raging from Science, Economics, Cosmology, Psychology, Biology, Architecture, and so much more.

Today I want to share with you some interesting parts of a book titled, The Case Against Reality by Donald Hoffman.

What do I think about when I think of dreaming? I think about images in my head. Like short, hazy, forgettable video clips with no continuity, or detailed theatrical epics that could stay with me for years.
