Remain in Me

Series: 7-day Jesus

Date preached: 6th June 2023

What does it look like to have “7-day faith”. There’s a big difference between a weekend footy fan and a 7-day footy fan. And there’s a big difference between a weekend Christian and 7-day follower of Jesus. Today we begin our series exploring the foundation of a 7-day faith … a daily time to connect with Jesus.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What are your first thoughts when you hear the words “7-day faith”?

2. What does your week look like when it comes to daily Bible reading and prayer?

3. How would your life look different if you had a daily time with Jesus? If you already have this time - how does it impact your daily life? Be specific.

The Comparison Trap

Series: Gifted

Date preached: 14th May 2023

There is one thing that has the potential to undermine your ability to live out the purpose God has given you … comparison. Since the beginning of time, comparison has been the enemy of men and women: robbing their peace, stealing their joy and distracting from being the one thing God created them to be - themselves. This message shines a light on the dangers of comparison and helps us overcome the comparison trap by focussing on God’s truth about each of us.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What comes to mind when you hear the word comparison?

2. On a scale from 1 (not difficult at all) to 10 (really difficult), how difficult do you find it to overcome the comparison trap in your life?

3. How would your life look different if you could avoid the comparison trap more? Be specific.

Real Church Community

Series: -

Date preached: 16th April 2023

What does it look like for a 21st century Australian church to call itself a “community”. In this message we explore why Christian community is a ‘thing’ and what it looks like in today’s context. This also lays out something of our vision for TIDE church.

2. How does the story of the Bible impact the way we see community in the church today?

Jesus is Lord

Series: Easter 2023

Date preached: 9th April 2023

The Easter story asks us two important questions: do you believe Jesus actually rose from the dead?; and if you do, will you make him your “Lord”? Matt’s Easter message challenges us to think about what it means to say ‘yes’ to the Easter story.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What first comes to mind when you think about teh Jesus story at Easter?

2. How does your thoughts about the resurrection impact what you believe about Jesus?

3. What does it mean to you to say “Jesus is Lord”? Or what ‘could’ it mean?

4. How do you take the Easter story and apply it to the other 364 days of your year?

Fully devoted

Date preached: 2nd April 2023

We live in a world that talks about Christian faith like there are “levels”. Believing there is a God is the base level. Going to church regularly (not just when you feel  like it) is a level up. Reading your Bible daily is another level up. Giving money to a church is another level up. And so it goes on. In this message we look at the way Jesus and the early church talked about commitment to God and discover an “all or nothing” faith where “fully devoted” is the only real option.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What comes to mind when you hear a phrase like a “full on Christian” or “totally devoted”?

2. How does King Asa’s story make you feel about your own level of faith commitment?

3. How will today’s message change the way you live your life this week? Be specific.

Doing good

Series: Galatians

Date preached: 26th March 2023

Paul was incredibly frustrated. After pouring his heart and soul into the Galatian church he couldn’t believe that they would drift so far from the message of freedom and grace that he taught them. In this message Matt talks about what life “in the spirit” looks like as we wrap up our series on Galatians.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What comes to mind when you hear Paul talk about not giving up “doing good” in church? (Is it hard, fun, challenging, draining?)

2. How does “life in the spirit” affect the way you “do good”?

3. Thinking about this Galatians series, what is one thing you’re going to take away with you?

4. How will today’s message (or this series) change the way you live your life this week? Be specific.

Fruit of the Spirit

Series: Galatians

Date preached: 19th March 2023

Paul was incredibly frustrated. After pouring his heart and soul into the Galatian church he couldn’t believe that they would drift so far from the message of freedom and grace that he taught them. In this message Matt talks about what life looks like for followers of Jesus living in the ‘freedom’ that comes with faith in Jesus - about the ‘fruit’ we should expect to see.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What are your first thoughts when you hear the words “fruit of the spirit” in church?

2. How does it feel to hear Matt say that the fruit of the spirit isn’t a list of things to do, but the natural result of a life lived in step with the spirit?

3. When you think about your own life, how “in step” with the spirit are you?

4. What is one thing you could do this week to walk more in step with the spirit of God? (Remember this isn’t something to do so that God will love you - rather it’s a response to what God has already done for you)?.
