No and never are words a lot of people associate with God and the church: don’t do this, you're never allowed to do that! But Jesus said “no and never” to some other things that flipped the way people saw God, saw themselves and saw others. This week we look at Jesus’ message that he came ‘end death’ and open the door to ‘eternal life’.

1. What are your first thoughts when you hear the words “eternal life”?

2. Why do you think it is so hard for most people to look at life beyond the physical world that is right in front of us?

3. How does/would eternal life change the way you live right now in this life?

DON’T judge

NEVER give up in prayer

This week we look at a powerful story Jesus told when he said “never give up praying”.

1. If you were describing your prayer life, would you use the word “persistent”? If not, what other words would you use to describe it?

2. Jesus talks about the link between persistent prayer and faith. What does your prayer life say about your faith?

3. The story finishes asking “when Jesus comes, what kind of faith will he find?” If he came and looked at your faith, what would he see?

4. What would have to change for Jesus to see “greater faith” in your life?

NO condemnation

But Jesus said “no” to some other things that flipped the way people saw God, saw themselves and saw others. This week we look at one of the most unexpected claims the early church made about God when they said that “Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world”.

1. What ideas and images come to mind when you hear the word “condemnation”?

2. What do you think when you hear that “God didn’t not send Jesus into the world to condemn the world but to save it”?

3. Matt talked about three practical things that happen when someone really understands Jesus' message about no condemnation: 1. You can be completely honest with God; 2. You can pray and worship with boldness; 3. You will accept other people? Which of these would most impact your life if you were to develop it more?

Most Christian prayers begin with “God … give me”. Whether we are praying for healing, for financial help or a good result in our exams, essentially we’re asking God to give us something. This series explores the power we can experience when we expand our prayer life beyond “give me”. In this talk, Matt explores the power of praying “God … use me”.

1. What is your experience with the prayer “God use me”?

2. Are you ready to make yourself available to God and to pray “God use me”? You can pray that prayer right now if you want?

3. What do you have “in your hands” that you can make available to God. (Think about your skills and abilities as well as your ‘money and stuff’. Also think about the places God has you right now: school, Uni, work, sports etc)..

Most Christian prayers begin with “God … give me”. Whether we are praying for healing, for financial help or a good result in our exams, essentially we’re asking God to give us something. This series explores the power we can experience when we expand our prayer life beyond “give me”. In this talk, Matt explores the power of praying “God … forgive me”..

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What is your experience with the prayer “God forgive me”?

2. What do you think about the idea of ‘repentance’ in your life? What might it look like for you to repent and pray God forgive me?

3. In this series, we’re encouraging people to actually experience these powerful prayers. Today, grab a blank sheet of paper and a pen and find a place where you can sit quietly for 5 minutes. Write down whatever comes to you as something for repentance and forgiveness. Remember, this isn’t just about obvious crimes or big sins, repentance is also about turning away from things like greed, anger and selfishness  and turning toward God and the love and grace he wants for us. Pray “God forgive me” and then destroy that piece of paper (literally burn it or shred it or whatever) as a symbol of God’s forgiveness and ‘new life’.

1. What is your experience with the prayer “God speak to me”? Have you ever heard or felt like God was speaking to you?

2. Where in your life could you start praying this prayer?

3. In this series, we’re encouraging people to actually experience these powerful prayers. Today, grab a blank sheet of paper and a pen and find a place where you can sit quietly for 5 minutes. Pray “God speak to me” and then write down whatever comes into your mind and heart. It doesn’t matter if you don’t think it’s from God - write down whatever comes to you. If you find it difficult, you could reflect on some scripture (Psalm 1, 23 or 41 are good places to start) or play some music quietly to help focus your mind on what God might want to sat to you?

God says about you “you are designed for eternity”

One thing - perhaps an unexpected thing - that God says about each of us is “you are designed for eternity”. We are created to like forever … and God is so desperate for us to live forever with him that he sent Jesus to die to make that possible. Today we explore these really important words God says about each of us.

2. How easy or hard do you find it to lift your eyes from the “right now” and take a long term view of your life?
