Paradox

A paradox is something that appears to be impossible or untrue, but is actually true. Jesus spoke often in paradoxes. In today’s message, Matt looks at Jesus’ saying “those who want to save their life will lose it and those who lose their life for me will save it”. What did Jesus mean and what does this ancient paradox mean for us living in 21st century Australia?

Changing the World 

Series: Audacious Prayer

Jesus talks a lot about prayer. Most of what he teaches is not about what to pray, but rather, about how to pray. And his first lesson is to pray boldly and persistently. Mostly, when we think about praying boldly, we think about our own lives (my health, my relationships, my job etc). In today’s lesson from Paul’s bold prayer for the Colossians, we see that one of the most important bold and audacious prayers we can pray is “use me”.

1. On a scale from 1 (a little) to 10 (lots) how courageous are you at asking a stranger for help?

2. What breaks your heart? (and if there’s nothing that comes to mind, then what could you do to find that thing that would break your heart?)

Changing our Hearts 

Series: Audacious Prayer

Jesus talks a lot about prayer. Most of what he teaches is not about what to pray, but rather, about how to pray. And his first lesson is to pray boldly and persistently. Mostly, when we think about praying boldly, we think about changing our circumstances (our health, relationships, jobs etc). In today’s lesson from the life of King David, we see that one of the most important bold and audacious prayers we can pray is “create in me a clean heart”..

2. How often are your prayers directed to what’s happening in your heart vs what’s happening in the world around you?

Seek His Kingdom and His Righteousness
