Stand Up for the Least

Series: Angry

Date preached: 26th May 2024

We often think of Jesus as a kind, gentle man. And he was. But Jesus got angry. In this series we’re looking at what made Jesus angry, and what this means for us today. In this episode, we explore Jesus’ anger when he saw “the least” in society being oppressed and ignored. It made him mad! The “least” were important to Jesus and he expects them to be important to anyone who says they follow Jesus too. In this message we explore what it means for us to speak up for those who can’t speak up for themselves.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What little things make you angry?

2. In your own words, why do you think Jesus was angry about the treatment of “the least” in his society??

3. Jesus calls his followers to care for the poor, the lost and the lonely - how do you make about this idea a reality in your own life?

Hypocrisy

Series: Angry

Date preached: 19th May 2024

We often think of Jesus as a kind, gentle man. And he was. But Jesus got angry. In this series we’re looking at what made Jesus angry, and what this means for us today. In this episode, we explore Jesus’ anger when he saw hypocrisy. It made his mad! But we’re all at least a little hypocritical. What does Jesus say about our hypocrisy, and what can we do about it. We hope this message will challenge you to be honest about your own hypocrisy and to invite the Holy Spirit to change your heart.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What do you think of when you hear the word “hypocrisy”?

2. Why do you think Jesus was so angry about hypocrisy in the church?

3. (If you’re game) In what ways do you struggle with hypocrisy and how does this message challenge you to change? (Think about yourself, not others, or “everyone”).

Give me a rest - understanding Biblical rest

Series: Rest

Date preached: 7th April 2024

Rest is a theme that runs throughout the Bible from the first pages to last. In this message, Matt takes us on a journey through the Biblical idea of rest? From the first pages of the Bible until the words of Jesus and beyond, Matt shows us that God’s “rest” is a lot more than taking a day off work and chilling in front of the TV.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What things in your life tend to limit your ability to experience God’s rest and peace in your life?

2. How could you experience more of God’s rest and peace in those moments?

3. What does it mean to you to experience God’s rest every day, regardless of what’s happening in our life?
