Freedom in Christ

Series: Galatians

Date preached: 12th March 2023

Paul was incredibly frustrated. After pouring his heart and soul into the Galatian church he couldn’t believe that they would drift so far from the message of freedom and grace that he taught them. In this message Paul talks about the ‘freedom’ that comes with faith in Jesus and compares this to the ‘slavery’ that is trying to follow rules and be a good person in order to get God to love and accept us.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. What are your first thoughts when you hear the words “slave” and “free” in church?

2. What are some things you do that make you think “God will love me more when I do this?” Try and be specific. (You can also think about things you try NOT to do for the same reason).

3. How does it feel to hear Paul write that “Christ has set us free”?

4. What is one thing you could do this week to live more “free” in Christ?

Grace vs law

Series: Galatians

Date preached: 26th February 2023

Paul was incredibly frustrated. After pouring his heart and soul into the Galatian church he couldn’t believe that they would drift so far from the message of freedom and grace that he taught them. In this message Paul makes his argument for why the Galatians (and us!) don’t need to add rules and traditions to message of God’s grace. For Christians, this message encourages us to remember the faith that originally saved us. For those of us still checking out Christian faith, this message is clear encouragement to not get confused by extra rules and traditions that we might believe are necessary to believe in God.

Questions to reflect on and discuss from this message:

1. Why do you think Paul was so frustrated by the Galatians adding ‘law’ to their ‘grace’?

2. If you’re a Christians what kind of rules are you tempted to add to your faith?.

3. If you’re not yet a Christian, what do you think about the difference between Christianity based on ‘faith’ versus Christianity based on ‘rules and traditions’.

4. How does this discussion influence how you live your day to day life in your school Uni, workplace and other places you spend your week.
