A team of archaeologists are beginning work to examine and map the site of the Kilcommon Ambush in Tipperary.

Tipperary County Council has commissioned Clonmel-based Abarta Heritage to undertake the study this summer, as part of their existing efforts with the ‘Landscapes of Revolution’ project.

Four RIC members were killed by local IRA troops in the ambush on December 16th, 1920.

Archaeologist with Abarta Heritage, Damian Shiels, has been speaking to Tipp FM reporter Michael Brophy.

Ballina’s Finn McGeever has travelled to Tokyo for the Olympic Games later this month as part of Team Ireland. The nine-strong Irish swimming team was confirmed, with Finn as a member of the 4×200 metre Freestyle Relay team.

The 20-year-old is the Irish senior record holder for the 400 metre Freestyle. Finn joined Fran from Tokyo this morning.

John G 0’Dwyer who is national chairman of Pilgrim Paths Ireland. Fran spoke to him about the recent completion and re-opening, later this month, of St Declan’s Way which will link Cashel to Ardmore.
