Theres great news from Thurles this as morning as Muhammad Aqeel has been granted Leave to Remain in Ireland.

Mohammed and his family arrived in Ireland in September 2015 and he began his education in the C.B.S. Secondary School in Thurles almost immediately.

He is an expectational student and was awarded “Science Student of the Year 2019” He completed his Leaving Certificate in 2020 and achieved an impressive 613 points, which led to an offer to study Dentistry in UCC.

However Aqeel was heartbroken on 23rd September when he received a refusal letter from the Department of Justice in relation to his Visa application to remain in Ireland.

A Tipperary businessman has outlined his frustrations at the challenges of recruiting this year. Manager of the Old Barracks Roastery in Birdhill, Alan Andrews, says that one applicant yesterday requested to be paid in cash so as to continue receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment. Alan is attempting to recruit for full and part time roles in Birdhill and Cork, and says it reflects the wider challenges of hiring people this year.

You might be familiar with the term gaslighting, well if not, "Gaslighting" happens when one person tries to convince another to second-guess their instincts and doubt their perception that something is real. Medical gaslighting happens when health-care professionals downplay or blow off symptoms and try to convince patients that they are caused by something else—or even that someone is imagining them.

Sabina Brennan is a Chartered psychologist, neuroscientist, author & host of the Super Brain podcast and she has written a great piece about medical gaslighting.

Its heartening to see that there is a growing interest in people using turnips and swedes now for carving, as opposed to pumpkins. Traditionally in Ireland, turnips would have been used for carving and the pumpkin was an American influence.
