Fr Tony Flannery is the Redemtiorist priest removed from ministry or speaking in Catholic Churches due to his outspoken views on the Church.

He's speaking in Newport this Sunday and that talk is entitled 'What can we say about God to the next generation?' - he spoke to Tipp Today in advance of that.

We're currently in the middle of the 'Decade of Centenaries'.

The initiative is the collective name to remember the decade of turmoil that took place a hundred years ago, beginning in 2012 with the centenary of the Ulster Covenant and formation of the Irish volunteers and concluding with the 100th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.

Well, we're about to enter the period that's a century on from the War of Independence – a war which, of course, began with an event right here in Tipperary.

The Soloheadbeag ambush, which many believe was an unsanctioned attack, proved to be a fatal encounter for two RIC constables and led to a chain of bloody events for those directly involved, and more generally to the overthrowing of an Empire.

The ambush is being commemorated across the County next year and we heard plans for that on today's Tipp Today.

A Clonmel woman is one of two lucky scientists chosen to train at the European Space Agency.

It's after a national competition to decide who would represent the Irish Research Council at one of the ESA's European bases.

Clonmel's Amy Joyce, who has a masters degree in experimental physics from NUIG will be working on developing tools for mission cross calibration and the challenges and procedures of operating a space mission.

Amy's already begun her internship with the ESA and joined Trudy from Madrid on Wednesday's show.

A priest who served in Tipperary could be on the route to becoming a saint.

Fr Colm O'Brien was a priest based at Ss Peter & Paul in Clonmel for eight years before he died of cancer in 2009, aged 36.

Now, the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, Alphonsus Cullinan has called a meeting of a hundred people to explore whether his life was marked by the "heroic virtue" which might justify the pursuit of sainthood.

They're seeking more stories of the priest and are appealing for anyone who has stories of Fr O'brien to contact them - Bishop Cullinan joined Trudy.
