The national fire service urges anyone who sees a fire to keep a safe distance away and report it immediately to them on 999 or 112.People are also urged to have water in the car if they are embarking on journeys and not to leave children or animals in cars unattended.

The impact of the current heat wave looks set to hit home even more with a hosepipe ban likely to be extended to a number of areas.

With Irish Water and County Councils across the country trying to maintain dwindling supplies people are being urged to cut back on water usage as much as possible.

Here in Tipperary the possibility of a hosepipe ban looms as water consumption went up 20 percent in recent weeks.

Under the changes recently announced by the Boundary Commission – the electoral area is being divided into two- Nenagh and Newport.

Current Labour Clr Fiona Bonfield will contest a seat in Newport while former Clrs Virginia O'Dowd returns to the political fray to contest in Nenagh.
