Kimber Hower’s introduction to collegiate lacrosse was far from typical. She came from Utah growing up in a family that skied competitively and showed horses. She hid under her helmet and trained with male athletes, committed to UNC as an 8th grader, only played 2 years of HS lacrosse, graduated as valedictorian as a junior and started her college experience at age 17. However, much like other athletes, she began to struggle with anxiety, self-confidence, and depression. She ultimately allowed others to help, prioritized herself, chose to redefine her identity and made an unprecedented move to transfer schools. She has become an inspiration and advocate for mental health teaching us why we should all “slowdown” to get further ahead.
