This has been one of the longer breaks between our year in review episodes. Last year was a bit of a lull in good movies, but 1995 was a very strong year.  There was a bit of crossover between the three of us and each of us had at least one movie that surprised the others.  As these episodes tend to go longer than most, the ending is a bit off the rails (as per usual).

This edition of our horror podcast has us starting up two new horror franchises.  One is considered by many to be a classic and on of the pioneers of the slasher, while the other is a bit more recent and has somewhat of a cult following.  Here's hoping the later editions fair better one of the prior series we discussed.

This episode we take a look at one of the few people in Hollywood who excels at both acting and directing.  We are only considering the movies that he has directed.  Still going strong at 91 years of age, he has been working in films for over 50 years.  The funny thing is, we each picked a film from a different era of his career.

Since we have just passed the 20th anniversary of 9/11, it seemed like it was a good time to do a movie based on the events of that day.  A few movies have been made about the heroes and the sacrifices that took place, but we ended up choosing a movie where the threat was thwarted, albeit at the cost of several lives.  We also briefly discuss what we remember as the events were unfolding.

This episode we will be discussing the beginning of the third trilogy of this epic saga.  While holding a great deal of similarities to the first movie to release, there is still enough that is unique to make it a very enjoyable movie.  We tried to keep the conversation strictly on this film and not to go to deep into what is yet to come.

This episode is just the two of us and we discuss a quasi sequel/reboot to a much maligned film from a few years ago.  Bringing in a new writer/director whose voice and vision fit perfectly with this cast of characters made this a far better film than the one that came before it.

This week with our category podcast we decided to take a look at another actor.  While arguably one of the greatest stand up comedians, he has had is fair share of ups and downs when it comes to his movie career.  Not surprisingly, the three movies that we chose all came from the height of his career in the 1980s.

This episode sees us conclude the prequel trilogy.  While these three movies had their flaws, it is hard to argue that the third film is the best of the bunch.  We did have some audio issues with one of the hosts, but that should be figured out before we post another episode.  We will soon be covering the modern films in this saga.

Before we started on our new horror franchises, we wanted to check out a new trilogy that had recently dropped on Netflix.  Based on a book series written by a guy that we all read as kids (a couple of us more than the third), the series had a unique way of telling a connected story.  I am interested to see if they continue making movies this way and under this titles umbrella.

We continue on our journey in this new franchise with the second movie, which I'm told is arguably the worst.  The episode plays out much like the first one with me asking questions to the one with the knowledge of the franchise.  We do take a slight detour for awhile and have a conversation about Game of Thrones.
