  • Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
Kristiana, former guest from our episode on the men of Grey’s Anatomy, is back! She is Natalie’s expert on the series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and is the perfect choice for discussing all the complexities around the discourse of season 4. Natalie and Kristiana will have a very nuanced conversation about Taylor Frankie Paul and her cancelled season of The Bachelorette. There will also be discussion on why no one wants Dadtok to be a thing as well as why Natalie has such a hard time buying into the show and how she’s constantly worried about what’s being portrayed as “women empowerment”.

  • The Geena Davis Institute
Natalie’s friend, Jessica Toukatly, is on the show today to talk about the important work started by The Geena Davis Institute for Gender and Media. Geena Davis was watching television with her kids one day when she noticed a sharp difference between the amount of lines given to male characters versus the female characters in the show. So she started tallying and collecting data. Jess will go over the ways Geena used her standing in Hollywood to meet with executives to bring light to how little women were being represented in media when it came to their male counterparts. There will also be a discussion on what quality female representation looks like in film, how the institute eventually expanded to collecting data that would represent other marginalized voices’ time on screens, and other women who have pioneered paths forward when it comes to getting women’s stories told.

Natalie and Darcie have been waiting for the right time to talk about Kesha and why they’re such strong supporters of who she is as an artist. After seeing the Tits Out Tour, they knew they had finally personally reached the best time and also Kesha seems to be having her best time as well. Topics of discussion will include Kesha’s reputation in the music industry, her legal battle with Dr. Luke, the healing she has done, and why Kesha is someone to be admired for her strength against adversity and how she inspires hope that you can fight the system, feel beaten by it, but still find your way to peace and happiness.

  • The Godfather
Tara Jabbari (Who Was She Podcast) has come prepared to prove to Natalie and the entire Tolerator audience that the Godfather Trilogy is actually a chick flick. Tara will use the films as a way to discuss how masculinity is presented in the films, the strong storylines rooted in the immigrant experience, and how women quietly held power behind the scenes. There will also be some moments where we can all just get a little hot over how good everyone looked in this trilogy.

And as a bonus feature, Tara has shared her pitch deck with all the visuals and movie clips that are referenced in the episode! You can find the deck at this link.
