  • Dr. Chari Cohen called the CDC advisory panel's recent decision an "epidemiological crime scene"
Epidemiologist Dr. Chari Cohen called the CDC advisory panel's recent decision an "epidemiological crime scene" and expressed deep dismay, stating there is no scientific argument to support the change in the long-standing recommendation for universal newborn hepatitis B vaccination.  On Friday, December 5, 2025, the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted to end the decades-long policy (in place since 1991) of universally recommending the hepatitis B vaccine for all newborns. New Guidance: The new guidance, passed with an 8-3 vote, recommends "individual-based decision-making" in consultation with a healthcare provider for infants born to mothers who test negative for the virus. It also suggested the first dose be administered no earlier than two months of age if parents choose to wait.

  • Democrats pushing for 3-year extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies
Senate Democrats are currently pushing for a vote on a three-year extension of the enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies before they expire at the end of December 2025. However, the proposal faces long odds and is expected to fail due to widespread Republican opposition in the Senate. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced on December 4, 2025, that Democrats would force a vote the following week on a "clean" three-year extension of the enhanced ACA funds. This proposal aims to maintain the current subsidy levels, which cap premiums for most enrollees and eliminate the income cap for eligibility. Every Democrat in the Senate is expected to vote in favor.

  • 37 of 2024 Trump voters say cost of living is worst they can ever remember, poll finds
A recent poll by Politico and Public First, released in early December 2025, found that 37% of individuals who voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 election believe the current cost of living is the worst they can ever remember it being. This sentiment highlights that affordability remains a top concern for many Americans, including a significant portion of the current president's voter base. The poll results indicate that economic concerns, particularly regarding the cost of living, are influencing voter perception, even among those who supported the current administration in the 2024 election. The general sentiment across the U.S. is that affordability is "out of control".

  • Why are abortion rights in Quebecs constitution when even pro-choice groups dont want that
The Quebec government is attempting to enshrine abortion rights in its proposed constitution to safeguard them against future challenges, but most pro-choice groups argue this move could actually make the right more vulnerable. Quebec Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette argues that women's rights have come under attack in other Western countries (like the U.S. after the overturning of Roe v. Wade), and he wants to ensure explicit, permanent safeguards are in place for future generations. The government's goal is to protect a right they believe is currently vulnerable if only secured through court decisions.
