  • Michael Chernus on the larger purpose of telling John Wayne Gacys story
Michael Chernus stated that the larger purpose of telling John Wayne Gacy's story in the Peacock series Devil in Disguise was to shift the focus from the killer to the victims and the systemic failures that allowed his crimes to continue for so long. The primary goal was to "shed light on who some of these victims were" and honor their stories and lives before they were tragically cut short. The show names each episode after a victim to reinforce this focus.

  • Hear Putin’s warning to Europe before meeting with Trump envoys for 5 hours
Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a stark warning that Russia is "ready" for war if Europe seeks one, just hours before engaging in nearly five hours of unsuccessful peace talks with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow on December 2-3, 2025. Speaking at an investment forum in Moscow, Putin accused European leaders of attempting to undermine US-led peace efforts in Ukraine by presenting demands that are unacceptable to Russia. He stated that Russia is not planning to go to war with Europe, but if Europe initiates one, Russia is prepared. Putin also warned that a European-started war could escalate to a point where negotiations would no longer be possible. He claimed that changes made by Europeans to the US draft peace plan were intended to completely block the peace process.

  • Are carbon capture promises overshadowing Canada's climate pledges
The debate centers on whether carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) is a viable primary solution for Canada's emissions or an unproven technology that delays the transition to renewable energy.  Critics, including professor Mark Winfield from York University and groups like Environmental Defence and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), contend that the new deal sends a signal that Canada is "deprioritizing" climate change action. They point out that current CCUS projects capture only a tiny fraction (about 0.5%) of Canada's total emissions, are expensive, energy-intensive, and unproven at the necessary scale.
