  • Children of murdered Muriel McKay lose bid to scan garden for her remains
The children of murdered Muriel McKay lost their High Court bid for an injunction that would have allowed them to use ground-penetrating radar to search for her remains in an East London garden. Mr. Justice Richard Smith denied the request, citing insufficient evidence and the "egregious conduct" of the family's representatives toward the homeowner.   The judge stated he was "not persuaded that even if a survey was carried out, that it would be conclusive one way or the other" and found the evidence for her remains being at the site "thin". The police had also decided that the new information did not meet their evidential threshold to launch a search themselves.

  • Calls grow for national screening programme for prostate cancer
Calls for a national prostate cancer screening programme, particularly in the UK, are intensifying, driven by political advocacy and new evidence suggesting that modern diagnostic methods can mitigate the historical harms associated with screening.  Over 120 UK parliamentarians, including former Prime Minister Lord David Cameron (who has been treated for the disease), have signed a letter urging the Health Secretary to prepare for a screening programme. High-profile figures and patient advocates, like Kevin Kibble, share personal stories of late diagnosis to highlight the urgency.

  • Analysis 'How might Ukraine react to giving up land'

Ukraine's government and the majority of its public are staunchly opposed to formally ceding territory to Russia, viewing it as an existential threat to their sovereignty and national existence. Any plan requiring such concessions would likely face strong political and public backlash, potentially leading to political instability for the current leadership.  President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly and explicitly stated that Ukraine will not "gift" or surrender land to Russia. The Ukrainian parliament even passed a resolution in August 2023 that prohibits territorial concessions to end the war.

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) condemned President Trump's social media posts targeting six Democratic lawmakers as "dangerous," specifically highlighting his suggestions that they should be tried for sedition and potentially executed.
The controversy arose after the six Democratic members of Congress, all with military or intelligence backgrounds, released a video reminding service members of their right to refuse illegal orders. Trump reacted with several posts on social media, writing that the lawmakers should be arrested and tried for "seditious behavior," a crime he stated was "punishable by DEATH!". He also reposted a message that read, "HANG THEM, GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD!".
