This episode, recorded live from Polishing the Pulpit in Sevierville, TN, fleshes out how disciples are to listen to Jesus by focusing on one parable which demonstrates how we should listen and one passage highlighting Jesus’ example as one who listened to God.
What did Jesus mean by the title disciple? After all, if we are to go and make disciples (Mat. 28:19-20), we need to know what the Lord meant by that command. This week, Dan and Robert turn to Matthew 10:24 where they learn that, to Jesus, a disciple is someone who will LISTEN to Him.
As familiar as it is to many Christians, the emphasis of “Great Commission” may not be what you think it is. The singular command of Matthew 28:19-20 is explained by three participles. This week brings us to Acts 18 and the end of the second missionary journey. Paul’s time in Corinth and in Ephesus points to purification and praise that is available only in and through Jesus!
Dan and Robert discuss Acts 17:16-34 with four questions:
Then, once the context is established, they dive into Paul’s sermon itself to explore how Paul thought of Jesus and how he preached Jesus to this specific group of people.
In Acts 17, Paul traveled to Thessalonica and to Berea. While the response varied at each place, Paul’s strategy remained the same: to teach people about Jesus. This provides a wonderful example for our own small group Bible studies.
