The Recruit is a new spy-comedy-action-drama on Netflix starring Noah Centineo as Owen Hendricks, a young attorney at the CIA who quickly gets in over his head. It bears no association with the 2003 thriller film that shares the same name. On this podcast, we are reviewing the first episode titled I.N.A.S.I.A.L. It is an hour long. In 1994, Hollywood released The Santa Clause, a PG family Christmas movie starring Tim Allen as a divorced dad who unintentionally kills Santa only to take his place as king of the North Pole. By the time films two G rated sequels rolled out in the mid aughts, the style was noticeably brighter, the adults were a little less grounded, and a predictable pattern emerged where some villain would temporarily succeed in limiting or taking Santa’s powers, risking Christmas, until Santa inevitably restored himself. 

It’s 2022, 16 years since the last movie. Tim Allen is pushing 70 and Disney+ has just released the 5th of a 6 part continuation to the original franchise labeled “The Santa Clauses.”

The story revolves around a kidnapping of a researcher in Colombia and the follow up mission to save her by her husband and brother. The series stars Jessica Ann Collins, Luke Evans, Michiel Huisman and Martina Gusmán. It is based on both a series and a novel titled “When Heroes Fly." Zootopia is an animated film released in 2016. It is set in a CGI world of anthropomorphic animals. In the movie, bunny Judy Hopps joins the Zootopia Police Department and uncovers a huge conspiracy with the help of shady red fox voiced by Jason Bateman, Nick Wilde. Zoom now to 2022, Nick and Judy are not so significant in the follow up show, Zootopia+ that was released November 9th. It contains six 5-7 minute shorts that are tangentially related to the original movie, but they’re independent stories.
