  • MLS 104: "YOU ALREADY SNOW" Dj Illegal of the Snowgoons with Omen44
    Peace!
This week we got the incredible Dj Illegal of the SNOWGOONS. Hailing from Germany, along with his goon cohorts, (Sick Nature, Det Gunner, and JS Kuster) they've managed to make a huge name for themselves around the world. They are perhaps the most successful foreign import to ever make boombap hiphop. And theyve worked with damn near everyone. From the late great Sean Price to new greats like Conway the Machine. The Snowgoons have a huge catalog of albums that include collaborative releases with MOP, Onyx and the LordS of the Underground as well as their highly acclaimed group projects like German Lugers and Goon Bap.
    Its really fuckin wild.
The god, Omen44, who youll remember from our Skyzoo, El Da Sensei and Mike Soops episodes, brought Dj Illegal to the pod and joins in as a guest host.
In part one, we talk about the success of the Snowgoons throughout American hiphop culture. Dj Illegals early exposure to hip-hop from an American military base in his German hometown. Going from seeing his musical favorites on television to rocking crowds of 50,000 people with them. We talk about the hip-hop community in Germany and its racial diversity. What is "real hiphop" and authenticity. Also his new found love of video content and upcoming 48 hour live stream project.
Stay tuned for part two where we get into a more in-depth into his music, creative process, our musical shares and more.

  • MLS 103: "Lofi Beats to be Quarantined to" Marcus D with Submerse
    Yo!!! More special for you.
    The incredible Marcus D!!
Marcus D was born and raised in Seattle Washington. Hes been putting out music since he was 16 and despite being mighty young, hes already had a prolific career in music. Hes often compared and seen as a spiritual successor of Nujabes but hes far more than that and has created his own incredible sound and legacy. Hes one of the most popular and talented producers out.
After a lengthy convo about the Corona Virus and how its effecting our lives in Tokyo, we get into the legacy of Nujabes 10 years after his passing, the increasing popularity, gentrification & stagnation of the "lo-fi beats" landscape, breaking the rules, Marcus' career and moving to Tokyo, video game music, and a lot in-between. We get more in-depth into his new projects Times Remembered and Sector V on part two. Which is where we share some music were feeling, including a track Marcus produced early into his career with Royce the 5'9 and Crooked I.
Also the homie, friend of the show and super talented producer/beatmaker, Submerse, is in the co-host seat. Shout out to him!
