# 102!!

We are hella West Coastin today!

Not only do we have the ridiculously dope and incredible, Jansport J, but we've also got emcee/manager-extraordinaire, Slim Jeff.

If you don't know Jansport J you're falling off. He's one of the best and most interesting producers out. Whether he's creating solo instrumental albums or collaborating with emcees, his sound immediately stands out in the seemingly endless sea of sample based producers.

As a huge fan of his work, it was dope to sit down and talk to J and slim about their experiences visiting Japan for the first time, navigating the music industry as a sample based artist, lo-fi and soul music, the Tokyo beat community, and much more.

The second half of the podcast drops on Tuesday. We go much more in depth about their music, their creative process, and taste in music. So tune in for that too.

And to top this shit off, we got the wonderfully talented producer, illustrator and homie, Foniks, as guest host.

Shout out to J, Slim, and Foniks. Make sure you go buy their art. And more importantly tell someone about it.

Yo part two of our Ohga episode!

This side we talk about music. Specifically Ohga''s music and how he got started. Him winning a stack of money as high as Mt Fuji, working with other Japanese artists such as Kojoe. We share some music, discuss Hip-hop hand orientation, if Del the Funky Homosapien was a top 5 west coast emcee in the 90s, Mega shares some old Micranots shit, we discuss what we were listening to in that era and Busta's buff ass voice.

We share a few tracks as well. A few from Ohga's back catalog, a couple from Flat Stanley's new project, "If Not Now, When?" and also a track from the new Gangstarr album.

You know the vibes.

Were gonna be collaborating with Shux and Ohga on some new Tokyo Hiphop community video content. So pay attention to that. Like subscribe and share.

@megalateshow

Japanese emcee, Ohga, has had a long and amazing career. He first found hip-hop culture while growing up in New York but right around adulthood he would return back to his parents home country of Japan. In both places hes felt somewhat outside of each culture but it also provided him with a unique outlook on both.

We talk a lot about his personal life experiences in both the states and here, writing raps in Japanese and English, how the languages differ grammatically and how poetic devices in English differ from Japanese. We talk about his early love of Biggie and a bunch of other stuff.

The big homie, Shux Wun of Music & Strength, also joins in as guest co-host. He and Ohga have been friends and working together for several years. Check this episode out and make sure you tune in to part 2. Drops on Tuesday. On that we listen to some of Ohgas music and much more.

Yo Part two of our 100th episode celebration!

Weve got the whole family back together/// Steze, D Dahlinger, Keen, and Marvell.

Its off format and we basically just discuss anything that comes to mind. Japanese pronunciation and Japanese voice actors dubbing American movies, things to leave behind in the last decade, homunculi, The NFL, Tha god Nick Cage, Sigourney Weavers ass in Galaxy Quest, Stezes recipes, Chicken n Waffles, and how Mega has never ate pie and never heard of the Pharcyde.

Thanks for tuning in. Were off for another couple of weeks again while we figure out the future of the podcast.

Thanks for tuning in!

@megalateshow everything

Yo!

Finally! Celebrating 3 years of podcasting, music mixes and conversations, were back with episode 100!!! This time we brought the whole crew out; D Dahlinger, Keen, Marvel and Steeze!

Its been a while since we were all in the same place at the same time, so we caught up about what we did over the holiday. Wrestle Kingdom, Vell and Lates epic night of jenga and alcohol, dieting, eminems new album, and what we expect hiphop to sound like in the 2020s.

Well have part two out next tuesday. And more consistent MLS content soon. Were still figuring out some new scheduling issues.

Thank you to all of our listeners! We really appreciate you! Like, share, subscribe.

We're still working on episode 100 but in the meantime here's an interview from last March. We caught up with Stlndrms, MicxSic and James Lewis of the ATL-based Controllerise Collective.

After their performance at En-Sof Tokyo we took a couple minutes to conversate before the last train. Everyone was rushing to get out so the recording was only about 10 minutes.

Initially we planned on doing a whole episode based on the interview but we got hella busy with other in-studio guests.

Still, these cats were really dope and they're putting out some incredible music. They're also doing some really dope things out in Atlanta. Tune in.

Yo!!

!!!

It's already the end of the year!! luckily, Mega Late Show is here to help you contextualize and put 2019 into a frame of reference that is understandable. For this episode, we decided upon six categories to highlight some of our favorite tracks of the year:

Favorite Verse

Favorite Beat

Favorite Track from your Favorite Album

Song Of The Summer

Favorite New Artist

&

WildCard

Of course, since we have a podcast and like to chatt, we go a bit overboard, and this episode is loaded with a lot of tracks and music and just general talk about things we like so have your Shazam ready!!

It's the end of 2019 and god bless all of the Tanaka's!!!!

Part two of our conversation with Kojoe. We get into his taste some more, discussing Nas and 2pac. He talks about coming back to Japan after well over a decade in the states. We also go back and discuss Kojoe's collaboration with Olive Oil, HH, and he first album he made when he returned to Japan, 51st State.

Kojoe shares some music of his new beat tape projects. And tells us about his new beat tape campaign that he'll be doing for the next 10 months. So far he's released Joe's Chicken N Waffles and Joe's Housing Project. The next project in January will be Joe's Strip.

All the projects will culminate in a pop-up shop featuring all the art and albums. Well keep you posted.

We also have some other musical shares. Late shares a new Mega Ran track and we discuss his collab Dewey Decible System with MC Lars being considered for a Grammy nomination (Mega made a mistake and said it was already nominated for a Grammy but it was actually just on the short list for consideration.) We talk about Black Thought killing the Hot 97 Freestyle. Canibus vs Dizaster. Shad AD shares Rexx Life Raj and Mega shares something from the new Alchemist and Action Bronson album. Also we talk about LONG ASS BACKS and Snows "Informer."

And of course THE UNCHANGING.

Shout out to Shad AD for helping to host this one!

So tune in, subscribe, like and share.

Musics:

Mega Ran - Super Friends featuring Skyblew & Mickey Factz
