Tokyo Mega Late Show

Yo this episode we caught up with the new homie, Emcee/ recording artist, MNSR Frites.

Frites is from the UK and is somewhat new to Tokyo only having been here for a little over a year. Already hes rocked shows with Beat the Best and is working with local artists. We talk about his influences and introduction to hip-hop while growing up in the UK. How he started rapping, his solo work and his time in the bands Granville Sessions and Moose Funk Squad. We talk about some older UK artists, a bunch of new albums including Benny, The new Madlib Freddie Gibbs, Revenge of the Dreamers 3 and double plus extra other shit/ per usual.

Dahlinger almost stopped by to kick after several months MIA from the show.

Definitely check out MNSR Frites music on bandcamp and spotify. Also keep an ear wide for his new work.

Back again with some off-format content! Got another kaiwa joint with our guest, Omar Burgess. Omar is a former journalist for various hip-hop outlets and has been active within the culture for many years. We talk a little bit about his past ventures and experiences with some major figures in the community.

Also, we have another installment of our Best...Albums...Decade...Ever...list!! We officially add three more albums, and unofficially christen #1 which we think will probably stick until the list is completed. Our guy Shux Wun sat in with us to help us with this great debate! Thanks for listening and enjoy!!

Super long episode this week!

Neil Armstrong is a dj and member of the renowned 5th Platoon turntablism crew. He is also a producer, a global ambassador for Adidas, an event organizer, a former tour DJ for Jay-Z, and most recently a newish resident of Tokyo.

We caught up with Neil to talk about growing up in NY, getting his name from Fat Beats, being taught the art of turntablism by Mista Sinista and Total Eclipse of the X-men, battling in the highly competitive turntablist scene of the 90s and early 00's, touring with Jay-Z, his Filipino roots and his thoughts on the current state of turntablism.

This episode is very long. We actually recorded about 5 hours with Neil and decided to cut out the finer details of his time spent touring with Jay. well release that sometime soon.

Follow Neil on everything and check out his music everywhere.

STILL,

MLS with guest OYG (a.k.a. Old Young Guy) of the Down North Camp. He's an emcee with roots in Japan and L.A. and a history that stretches back to do improvised freestyle sessions in karaoke booths. We get into some deep Tokyo hip-hop history, living with past guest Budamunk, and how connected the hip-hop community is throughout the world. The homie Shux Wun came through again for the back-to-back to hold down the guest host duties. OYG is one of the most interesting people we've had in the studio so we have lengthy, in-depth convo; ENJOY and support your local artists,

and MLS!!!

Imani and Maasi Oak!

Blerds in the building! Today we got Imani and Maasi Oak! Imani is a singer/songwriter/ artist that also rocks with Bae Tokyo. Maasi Oak is an emcee and also one of Lates old friends from college back stateside. Both of them are super blerds and very much into Pokemon. They've collaborated to create a really dope track about being unapologetic Pokemon fans and the type of swagger that comes with that energy.

Imani had to duck out before we could record a whole episode but definitely check out the RAW URBAN MOBILE PODCAST for more of her personal story. Maasi stuck around and we went off on long tangents about Godzilla, zombies, comics, Pokemon Go, the difference between a geek or nerd, and a bunch of other shit.

Also MLS member SHUX WUN came through to be confused about Pokemon names with Mega.

Late dates people.

Rocky "Azucar" Romero is a Cali raised international Super-star Pro-Wrestler with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Having started wrestling at the early age of 15, hes been wresting alongside some of the sports greatest stars for over 2 decades. During this time he's worn many masks and branched out from just performing in the ring. Hes also an actor, producer, emcee, mentor and ringside announcer.

Former guest of the show, writer, announcer, fellow podcaster, and living encyclopedia of wrestling knowledge, CHRIS CHARLTON, was kind enough to bring Rocky to the studio to discuss his career, music, and basically just hang out. Both of them are helping to grow NJPW and absolutely killing it in every way possible.

Rocky was ridicuously cool af and we're super honored that he came through. Be on the look out for him on NJPW and check out his site for merch. Check out Chris on the official NEW JAPAN PROWRESTLING PODCAST. Immediately.

Yo!

The Gods are agile.

Even in the face of adversity (don't be on no 星 shit in the Ｌｅｉｗａ

era) Mega Late were able to pull through. Using the good help of our friends, unofficial MLS members Marvell and Katohmy, we took an unnecessarily trying session and turned it into a cool little catch up with the homies. You might remember Katohmy from episode 007 with Sunday Replay and Marvell from various eps helping out with the Nihongo. Although we get caught up a bit before we have to cut the convo short, we took the opportunity to add this lost mix that was supposed to be released through Sunday Replay before Late shut it down with the difficulty of animating his hair. Special kaiwa/mix edition!! It's like a time-capsule! Let's see if we're still as dumb as we were two years ago.
