Tom Burckhardt is an artist based out of New York City. He received his BFA from SUNY Purchase and also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. His numerous solo exhibits include “City Slang” at Gregory Lind in San Francisco, “Full Stop” at the Knoxville Art Museum and the Hudson River Museum, “Pretty Little Liars” at Tibor De Nagy Gallery amongst many others. He’s been included in group shows at Steven Harvey, Brian Morris, Steven Zevitas, DC Moore, Caren Golden and also in museum shows at the Nation Academy, the McNay Art Museum, and the Islip Art Museum to name a few. His work has been covered in numbers publications and sites including The New York Times, Art in America, ArtNews, The Brooklyn Rail, ArtForum and The Village Voice. He’s received a Joan Mitchell Foundaion Grant, a Guggenheim Grant, a Pollock Krasner Grant, a NYFA Grant among others. Brian met Tom at his studio of over 20 years in the East Village in Manhattan and they talked about his youth as the child of accomplished artists, Indonesian percussion, passing on grad school and his life as a working artist.
