Every once in a while, I stumble across fascinating people who are genuine wine enthusiasts. They aren’t necessary part of the primary production, but something happened in their life which connected them to the industry and they have been forever search how to not only maintain the connection, but also to let it flourish. Tom Crago, originally from South Australia is one such person. He is the CEO of the globally renowned game developer company Tantalus, the owner of, or stakeholder in, a number of fine dining establishments across the globe and, last but not least – and how I came to meet Tom – an Author. Tom published his first book Flash Backs from the Flow Zone in 2014, a book that captures Tom’s early travelling of the world and creating what would become a globally renowned gaming company. Tom eventually realised that he had unfinished business. And this was penning a love letter to the Australian Wine Industry – thus Tom penned Grand Crew, the story of a Jude, a Melbournian who gets rich quickly through a fortuitous business deal and sets off on an adventure across the globe where Jude is intrusted with the quest of opening his own Melbourne Bistro. The book is as bold as it is romantic – it is very much Tom’s love letter to an industry that he loves. Tom joined me on the podcast to talk about the story of Jude, but more importantly Tom’s story and his romantic relationship with wine. A massive thanks to Tom for joining me.
