Lots of things in motion this morning including me. I talked about noisy traffic, potentially migrating some of my wordpress blogs to a static site generator (again), and the tv show, Person of Interest. The way the characters have changed over the course of the many shows. I’m nearing the end and looking forward to it almost as little as I would the last book or two in a really good series.

Obviously, I’m struggling to get this podcast back into something like regular production. I bit the bullet this morning to walk when I probably shouldn’t have but I survived.

Talked about cars, pens, and Tim Rangnow’s Rim Jumper series.

Finally. Everything is a bit soggy and it started to rain before I got back but I managed to get a nice walk in without getting soaked.

Talked about bread, a lot. Pens a bit. Just finished KT Hanna’s Library Reset: Overdue. Really fun book. Too bad the sequel won’t be out until November. Really underscores the frustration some of you must feel waiting for Butler 2: Eclectic Boogaloo.

Two wildfires within 100 miles to the west. 74F before sunrise. I walked anyway and it wasn’t terrible. A cooling breeze helped cut the heat back a bit. The smoke has dispersed enough for the moment that I couldn’t smell it (although I might just be inured to it). I had plenty of shade even if the sun was higher that I would have liked.

Talked about yesterday’s car shopping, finishing off Chandler’s Reluctant Sovereign, and starting Jenny Shwartz’s next Delphic Dame novel.

I whined about the economics of car ownership where a minor fender bender can total a vehicle. Also Mackey Chandler’s Family Law series and why I find it so engaging. Also there’s a forest fire about 35-40 miles west of us. Fun times.

Managed to get up early enough and stay focused enough to get out for the walk at sunrise for a change. It’s a beautifully cool morning where I talked about Skylar Ramirez (probably damning with faint praise, but I really did enjoy the series), Mackey Chandler, and the post-it notes on my monitor. I did not talk about that-which-shall-not-be-named, although I might have alluded to why I’m not talking about it.

It’s taken a while and honestly I didn’t think I’d make it this long when I started out 13 years ago.

I talked about Ramirez, choices, privilege, and how much luck looks like success instead of a dice roll.

Just rambled along today talking about 5,000 miles, Skylar Ramirez, and Fallout 4.

I feel like my reading of this Ramirez series is a bad Monty Python sketch. Every day I find something else I really don’t like but I accept – grudgingly – because I like the characters. Along the way, I seem to have become even more of a grumpy old man than I thought.

I talked (again) about why I don’t like novellas as a form and present tense in story telling even as I acknowledge the the Skylar Ramirez books are both and I’m enjoying them.
