  • Episode 33: More Valiant, Please

    This week, we review Book of Death: Fall of Harbinger #1 from Valiant. Valiant's Book of Death is the publisher's current main title that has ramifications across the entire universe. Fall of Harbinger highlights a unique story that showcases Valiant's very good storytelling. If you're already into Valiant, you most likely enjoyed this. If not, you should start reading some more -- there's a lot of great creativity happening here.

    We also discuss the upcoming Two Brothers, Watchmen on HBO, Jessica Jones and Heroes Reborn.

    Other books mentioned this week: Alias; Rumble; Drive; Invincible; M.O.D.O.K. Assassin; and Sweet Tooth.

    Next week's Debut Review(s):

    • Paper Girls #1 (Image) - SAGA writer BRIAN K. VAUGHAN launches a brand-new ONGOING SERIES with superstar Wonder Woman artist CLIFF CHIANG! In the early hours after Halloween of 1988, four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls uncover the most important story of all time. Stand By Me meets War of the Worlds in this mysterious young adult adventure, starting with a spectacular DOUBLE-SIZED FIRST ISSUE for the regular price of just $2.99!
    • Doctor Strange #1 (Marvel) - Who do you call when things are coming out of your dreams and trying to kill you? Or when your daughter is cursing in Latin and walking like a spider? Or when your dog keeps screaming at you to strangle your neighbors? Doctor Strange, of course. He's the only person standing between us and the forces of darkness, but has he been paying his tab? Every act of magic has a cost and Jason Aaron (THOR, ORIGINAL SIN) and Chris Bachalo (UNCANNY X-MEN) are going to put Stephen Strange through hell to even the scales.

  • Episode 32: Power Cubed and Most Ages

    This week, Brooks and Alan review Aaron Lopresti's Power Cubed #1 at Dark Horse Comics. Power Cubed proved to be a fun story that nails the dynamic of an all ages comic (though the inside cover says for 10+ years of age).

    The two talk Jeff Lemire writing yet another new Marvel book in 2016, Alterna Comics, Brian K. Vaughan, Super Mansion and Heroes Reborn.

    Other books discussed: We Are Robin #4; Runaways #4; Rumble #7.

    Next week's Debut Review:

    • Book Of Death - Fall Of Harbinger #1: A showdown. An apocalypse. An ending. Many years from today, Peter Stanchek, the Renegades, the Harbinger Foundation, the Bleeding Monk, and Toyo Harada's Imperium all reach their terminus, as the entire planet becomes the battlefield for the most devastating psionic combat humanity has ever seen. The Great Destroyer, long prophesied and foreseen, comes to Earth at last. Who will survive?and what will be left of them? New York Times best-selling writer Joshua Dysart (IMPERIUM, HARBINGER) and blockbuster artist Kano (THE DELINQUENTS) journey to the far end of the Geomancer's BOOK OF DEATH to reveal the final, unavoidable end for two of the Valiant Universe's most powerful foes.

  • Episode 31: Reuniting with The Paybacks

    It's been a while since we recorded, thanks to Alan being sick, but we're happy to reunite with The Paybacks as a debut review this week. As you should remember, The Paybacks is a new comic from Dark Horse creators Donny Cates and Eliot Rahal, who both recently appeared on Interview Spectacular. We've talked before about enjoying this book, and it didn't disappoint new readers everywhere.

    Also, Brooks dives into Rick Remender's Tokyo Ghost and explains how Remender makes you work for the reward of reading his material. We talk those two books, many more from the last week, and a bit more about Magnetic Press now that we've released the Mike Kennedy interview.

    Next week's Debut Review:

    • Power Cubed #1 - What if you had a piece of technology that created anything you could possibly want, and all you had to do was imagine it? What would you wish for? For Kenny Logan, his first wish is to survive his eighteenth birthday! His unique matter-reinterpreting device has attracted the attention of a bumbling Nazi scientist with plans for world domination and an elite government agent who is hell bent on acquiring the device to stop an alien invasion at any cost. Aaron Lopresti delivers a comical coming-of-age tale in a fantastic sci-fi universe!
