  • Interview Spectacular: Donny Cates & Eliot Rahal

Donny Cates and Eliot Rahal joined us for the third installment of Interview Spectacular in anticipation of their upcoming ongoing series with Geoff Shaw at Dark Horse, The Paybacks.

The two detail their friendship, which started as interns at Marvel, how that helped form writing styles, and got their minds moving on potential comic storylines. We talk past work, the strong message behind Buzzkill, what it's like to work with Dark Horse, and the two must decide between My Chemical Romance and The Toadies.

More importantly, we get some insider details on the world of The Paybacks. The Paybacks hits shelves on September 16, so please get in your orders at your local shop today, and check out recent work below.

    • The Ghost Fleet
    • Buzzkill
    • Hunter Quaid

  • Episode 25: Awake with John Flood

This week, Alan and Brooks review John Flood #1, from Boom! Studios, and talk briefly how good Boom's recent books have been. Afterwards, the two run the gamut as to what they've been able to read this past week. Books include:

    • The Wicked + The Divine
    • Cowl
    • Deadly Class
    • Broken World
    • We Stand on Guard
    • Buzzkill
    • The Ghost Fleet

Additionally, there's Deadpool trailer talk, a potential X-Men tv series, the not-so-good reviews of Fantastic Four, and playing as Iron Man in GTA V on your PC. Stay tuned next week for an Interview Spectacular with Donny Cates and Eliot Rahal.

    Next week's #1:

    • Americatown #1 (Boom! Studios) - After an economic collapse, Americans are illegally emigrating to other countries to find work, creating "Americatowns" wherever they go. Owen has a difficult time trying to sneak back into Buenos Aires in Argentina to rejoin his family; his struggle is just a small part of the hardships and conflicting agendas in an immigrant community trying to build itself in the shadow of a once great nation.

  • Episode 24: All the Tiny People

This week, Brooks still hasn't seen Ant-Man in theaters, but the boys make up for it by staying small and reviewing the first issue of The Shrinking Man from IDW.

Meanwhile, Alan frets over the one-cent Marvel Unlimited deal (which is now expired) that has added even more comics to his reading list. The two also talk excitement for Magnetic Press, and what might happen to the upcoming Gambit movie. Other books of discussion this week: Alias, Black Widow, Immortal Iron Fist, House of M, and the Fables finale.

    Next week's #1:

    • John Flood #1 (Boom!) - As the result of a government experiment, John Flood no longer needs to sleep, but now he's in a constant dream state and sometimes can't tell what's real and what isn't. But a side effect is that he sees patterns and makes connections no one else can, which serve him well in his new 'career' as a make-shift PI. Together with a burly ex-cop, Flood begins to investigate when he 'sees' one man responsible for thousands of unsolved murders, but now he himself has caught the killer's attention...

  • Episode 23: Buying for the Art

This week, the boys review Ales Kot and Matt Taylor's Wolf #1 -- a long-anticipated debut from Image Comics (mainly because we were fortunate enough to receive an advance copy). In addition, the two talk Power Up #1, Old Man Logan, Secret Wars, The Wicked + The Divine, and Book of Death: Fall of Bloodshot.

Brooks convinces Alan to read all of Fables (thankfully, comiXology has a sale), while the two discuss giving artists their full credit. Also, a new Marvel movie came out this past week.

    Next week's #1:

    • Shrinking Man #1 (of 4) - IDW - Richard Matheson’s exploration of shrinking manhood is brought to vivid life in this comic-book adaptation! Scott Carey, reducing 1/7″ per day, faces tension big and small as his body continues to shrink away…

  • Interview Spectacular: John Arcudi

Writer John Arcudi joins the show to talk his (and James Harren's) Rumble at Image Comics. Rumble's second arc is set to begin at the end of August, and Arcudi shares his vision for the series and the lengths he went to make this story a reality.

Many thanks to John for joining the show. If you haven't read any of his work (including quite a bit at Dark Horse), take a dive and enjoy.

  • Episode 22: Hire Us, Valiant

This week, the boys talk a lot more Valiant. In this week's first issue review, Alan and Brooks tackle the publisher's Book of Death, then conversation switches to its upcoming movie franchises before Brooks decides to update his resume for the current Marketing & Communications opening. (In all seriousness, people should apply for that job).

The two also talk Eisner winners, Olivia Munn's Psylocke look, and (it wouldn't be a Too Many Comics episode without this) Jeff Lemire's Descender.

In case you missed it, last week's interview with Nathan Edmondson can be found here. Stay tuned for John Arcudi's talk.

Other books of note this week:

    • Rumble, Vol. 1
    • Hawkeye #1-22
    • Robin: Son of Batman #2
    • Dead Drop #3
    • Invincible #121
    • The Island #1

    Next week's #1 review:

    • Wolf #1 (Image) - Ales Kot - The crime noir thrills and characters reminiscent of True Detective meet with mythical stakes worthy of Neil Gaiman's Sandman in this original fantasy/horror/crime saga for mature readers. Antoine Wolfe, a hard-boiled paranormal detective with a death wish, has to cope with sudden responsibility for an orphaned teenage girl who might be the key to the impending apocalypse, California-style. The road to hell and back begins in a MAX-SIZED FIRST ISSUE, with fifty-eight pages of story and no ads!
