In the last few days, President Macron of France, Keir Starmer of the UK, and Mark Carney of Canada have all announced that they will recognise the state of Palestine. President Trump rather shrugged at the first two, while acknowledging that they had the right to their position even if he didn't agree with it. But that wasn't remotely his reaction to Canada doing the same thing. This, he declared, would be the end of the trade talks with Carney's team. This came at the same time as he was applying pressure on Brazil over their prosecution of former president Bolsonaro. It seems Trump is very much in the business of pushing other countries on how they should behave - exactly what he once said he would not do. Let's discuss.
