The final film in animation month is one that Zach seemed to have pulled out of thin air, 1986’s When the Wind Blows. Having never heard of this none of us knew what to expect but we weren’t expecting this. Directed by Jimmy Murakami based on Raymond Briggs’ comic book of the same name, the film stars the voices of John Mills and Peggy Ashcroft and was scored by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. The film accounts a rural English couple’s attempt to survive a nearby nuclear attack and maintain a sense of normality in the subsequent fallout. Come join us!!

The third entry in our second annual animation month is the 1997 Fox animated film Anastasia. The title refers to the fact that we didn’t really talk much about the film but of Russia and Rasputin. directed by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman and starring the voices of Meg Ryan, John Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Hank Azaria, Christopher Lloyd, and Angela Lansbury. The film is a loose adaptation of the legend of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia, and centers around an eighteen-year-old amnesiac orphan who, in hopes of finding some trace of her family, sides with con men who wish to take advantage of her likeness to the Grand Duchess. The second entry for animation month got away from us time wise but we watched the Netflix animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots. The series was created by Tim Miller and David Fincher and is a re-imagining of a reboot of the 1981 film Heavy Metal. It consists of 18 stand-alone episodes, all under 20 minutes long, though we only watched 7 of them. The series title refers to each episode’s thematic connection to the three aforementioned subjects, though not every episode contains all three elements. Come join us for this discussion.
