Tortellini at Noon

The 1955 Peterbilt 281 chasing the 1971 Plymouth Valiant in Spielberg’s directorial debut, Duel.

When we have nothing else we want to do, we are going to start watching the debut films of directors that we enjoy and there is no one better to kick it off then Steven Spielberg and his 1971 debut Duel. We initially were going to do a proper review but it quickly turned into a discussion about debut films in general and if this film had any merit to Spielberg becoming a household name. If you don’t know Duel is about a business commuter who is pursued and terrorized by the malevolent driver of a massive tractor-trailer. Come join us in our discussion.

Lori Petty and Ice-T as Rebecca “Tank Girl” and Ripper T-Saint respectively.

Welcome to 2019!!!! To kick off Season 3 we watched the 1995 comic book film Tank Girl. This was a weird but still enjoyable pick from Conor, he’s yet to give us a clear stinker. Starring Lori Petty, Naomi Watts, Malcolm McDowell and Ice-T, it s set in a drought-ravaged Australia and follows the antihero Tank Girl (Petty) as she, Jet Girl (Watts), and genetically modified supersoldiers called the Rippers fight “Water & Power”, an oppressive corporation led by Kesslee (McDowell). More in the episode. We also give our Top 10 films of 2018 and the ones we’re most looking forward to in this new year.

Put that cookie down, NOW!! The only Christmas movie we are watching this year and for some reason we picked the 1996 film Jingle All The Way. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jake Lloyd it is about a father who vows to get his son a Turbo Man action figure for Christmas. However, every store is sold out of them, and he must travel all over town and compete with everybody else, including a mailman played by Sinbad, in order to find one. This was supposed to be a review as per usual but it turned more into a discussion of toys old and new and if we’ve ever had the same type of toy mania portrayed in the film. Come join us to hear us ramble.

Don got his new job working security at Target so he wanted to watch the 2012 film about Daft Punk Batman, Dredd. In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down the Ma-Ma gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO. Starring Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings) and Lena Heady (Game of Thrones) with a script by Alex Garland (Ex-Machina) this film is a fun ride with great action and kills and is definitely an improvement over the 1995 film. Come join us to hear the rest of our thoughts.
