If you’ve ever read Proverbs 31 and felt like a failure as a wife or mother, you missed the greatest lesson found in these verses. The Proverbs 31 woman doesn’t represent some unreachable goal. She represents all that a woman can become through the grace of God. Not only does she have the highest qualities a woman can possess, she is an overwhelming success in every area of life – personally, relationally, professionally, and domestically.
The devil doesn't care whether we are consumed with problems or sailing down easy street-- as long as he can keep us so focused on our own lives, that we become oblivious to what's going on in the lives of others. It's easy to forget that there's a world of people out there who may have never heard that God loves them...that their lives and circumstances matter to Him. The greatest gift we can give is the greatest one we've already received.
Following Jesus is a two-step process. Of course the first step is to accept Him as Savior. We can't just stay in that safe place of salvation -- knowing we are going to Heaven. The Great Commission mandates that we make disciples-- "disciplined ones", develop a relationship with our Heavenly Father and learn to hear and obey Him.
Every time the disciples thought they had Jesus figured out, He threw them a curve ball. Even though they had been with Him almost every waking hour for three years, they were still discovering how much more there was to learn during His final days on Earth. They gave their lives to follow Him and to lead others to Him. Imagine their amazement to learn that the Son of God had not come to be served...but to serve!
When was the last time you really listened to someone? When a person begins to speak to you, do you instantly think of all the other things you could be doing? Or, are you afraid that you may be asked to do something that costs you time or other resources. Aside from your relationship with God, connecting with people is your greatest purpose. Learn to see people the way Jesus sees them.
