It was 50 years ago today that “Sgt. Peppers brought the band to play.” And did they ever! The Beatles transformed the musical landscape with their legendary album, “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” in the summer of 1967 so on this edition of TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #219) I'll do my small part in remembering that moment by dedicating the first set to that amazing recording as interpreted by THE BOBS, THE FLAMING LIPS, AL DIMEOLA, THE MISSION UK, FEE WAYBILL, THE RUTLES, and THE BEATLES themselves.
But wait, there's more! (music that is). STICK MEN, ROBBIE FULKS, THE AVALANCHES, TODD RUNDGREN, WARPAINT, BIG WALNUTS YONDER, SERATONES, JUANA MOLINA, SYLVAN ESSO, and THE AFGHAN WHIGS all play their latest pieces.
From the “vault” you'll hear GENTLE GIANT'S “In A Glass House,” SHADOWFAX (playing Don Cherry), PENTANGLE (doing “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat”), VANGELIS’S composition “Albedo 0.39”, KEN NORDINE, TIN HUEY, KEVIN AYERS, and New York street musician MOONDOG. World music includes songs from TIGER BLOSSOM, TABLA BEAT SCIENCE, AND LES AMAZONES D'AFRIQUE. I'll even finish the show with another great song, “Castles Made of Sand,” by the master of the Stratocaster, JIMI HENDRIX.
Come one, come all and enjoy a fun packed three hour program.
