It’s Parts 1 and 2 of our journey through Boris Johnson's terrible novel, 72 Virgins. Or as we're calling it, Boris Gear Solid: Tactical Racism Action.
In Part 1, which we recorded live at Cambridge, we are introduced to our characters of the Boris Johnson Extended Universe. Meet such characters as Definitely Not Boris Johnson, Horny African Parking Attendant, Unnecessary Shoehorned In Classics Reference, and Woman.
Bad writing often reveals more about the author than they intend, and this is precisely what we explored a few months later in Part 2 with our friend from Australia, Aidan ‘Taco’ Jones. In his writing, and with what he thinks is funny, what does Boris accidentally reveal about the way he believes the world works? What does he think of ordinary people? How is he so horny for all of his characters, and yet so deeply sexless?

The team sits down with Olly Thorn, AKA Philosophy Tube, to talk about scientism... which is the ideology by which the world's most pareto optimised stupid/confident jackasses blithely claim to understand the entire world by just using a calculator and making some shit up. It's at the root of phrenology, both classic and modern, the tedious gender politics of the anti-trans lobby, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Enjoy!
Also... there's an election on!

You wake up. You turn on your computer to do Fiverr jobs until breakfast. You go to your job. Your contract is secure for another two weeks. You buy lunch for a tenner because you can't go on. You come home, exhausted. It's time for your next job. And you have to pay seven kinds of bills. You've become a burned out husk of a person. But now there's an exciting new venture capital backed startup called Pattern that wants to change all that with luxury cookware somehow. Riley, Milo, Alice, and special guest Nathalie Olah go deep on this strange new theory of change, and why maybe more start ups aren't the answer?

We cannot stress enough how much this matters.
So, it’s finally happening: we’re having another General Election. On December 12, the UK will vote yet again, and we have an opportunity to elect a socialist Labour government led by Jeremy Corbyn. However, as the full TF crew of Riley (@raaleh), Hussein (@HKesvani), Milo (@Milo_Edwards), Nate (@inthesedeserts), and Alice @AliceAvizandum discuss on this episode, we have to counter wave upon wave of disingenuous nonsense from dumb British media and useless centrist parties like the Lib Dems.

The full bonus features author and economist James Meadway on his fourth TF appearance, and we're talking about the right-wing thing tanks that make British public life so unbearable. Did you know that everything is fine because people today have 100 percent more wifi access than the Royals did 300 years ago? Learn about this, and more, by listening. It's that time again! Bryan Quinby from Street Fight calls in to talk with Riley, Hussein, and Alice about America's favourite real estate company that called itself a tech company and so is psychotically overvalued because it's involved in the giant pyramid scheme that is the SoftBank Vision Fund... and it isn't WeWork. We also talk about a lot of other shit.

This week’s bonus episode preview features the full cast of Riley, Milo, Hussein, Nate, and Alice on the topic of three distinctly horrible things: a startup that promises to create its own Chuck E. Cheese tokens instead of paying its workers; Amazon killing people in its fulfillment centres and deciding that actually, this is fine; and the truly most yer da thing in existence, a ‘satirical’ Brexit disco album that’s truly on the outer limits of bad. You’ll love it!

To discuss the Canadian elections, the US Presidential primary, and some terrible journalism, we have the full cast of Riley (@raaleh), Milo (@Milo_Edwards), Hussein (@HKesvani), Nate (@inthesedeserts), and Alice (@AliceAvizandum) joined with Canadian journalist, podcaster, and friend of the show Luke Savage (@LukewSavage). It’s one for the ages, folks.

In a preview of this week's bonus episode, we've done a deep dive into the work of the king of the airport books: Malcolm Gladwell. Riley, Milo, and Alice join Felix Biederman (@ByYourLogic) of Chapo Trap House (@chapotraphouse) to discuss the horror and the banality of the truest of thinkers. Hope you enjoy!
