Treasured Truth

Most of the prayers that Jesus prayed weren’t for Himself.  They were intercessory prayers that He prayer for other people.   And we need to follow His example.  Pastor Ford wants to help believers become better intercessors, so that God would be working through the prayers of His people.  Learn more about intercessory prayer on today’s Treasured Truth.

The widow in Luke 7 was mourning her son’s death.  But when she encountered Jesus, He told her to stop crying.  But, He had a reason to urge her to cease her mourning, because He knew His plan.  He was about to bring her son back to life.  To find out more about how Jesus miraculously worked in the life of this woman, join us for today’s Treasured Truth.

As we continue our study in Luke 7, we’ll see how Jesus responded to the faith of the widow in this passage and brought her son back to life.  Jesus had a purpose in this encounter, and that was to demonstrate God’s great power.  And in doing so, to honor the faith of this seemingly insignificant woman.

There is no such thing as coincidence with God.  Only providence.  Nothing is accidental.  Everything is Providential when it comes to the things that God allows to happen to His people. So, Pastor Ford will remind us today that it’s never too late to call on God to work through His providence on our behalf.

Today, we’ll take a look at what Jesus went through in the climax of His depression while He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.  And we’ll see how He overcame His severe depression to go on to the cross in order to die and to redeem us from our sins.  We’ll see how the God of Joy, became the Man of Sorrows so that people who have sorrow and depression, can now have His joy.

As we look further at Matthew 26, we’ll discover that when Jesus was depressed, He enlisted the support of His friends.  However, He didn’t just pick any of them.  He was selective.  Because not all of the people we are close to are going to understand our disctint situation.  So, we’ll see how selectively chosing the right support team can be one thing we can do to help us overcome our depression.

Today we’ll see how the gospel message is so clear, even as it’s seen within the nuances found in Psalm 23.  And Pastor Ford will remind us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, to redeem us from our sin.

As we begin a study today in Matthew 26, Pastor Ford will explain that depression is not a sin. It can’t be.  Why?  Because according to scripture, Jesus was depressed, yet He never sinned.  That realization should be a relief to those of us who are suffering in silence. Because there is so much stigma attached to depression, many of us never admit how we feel, so we never get the help we need.

According to Pastor Ford, learning to be content with what you already have is one way to avoid being jealous of others.  And for those of us who are believers in Jesus and are seeking to honor Him with our lives, another way we can escape jealousy’s grip is to simply ask ourselves—can we glorify the Lord through our jealousy?
