In His word, God has given us the revelation about the promises that He has for us. But He’s given us that revelation without giving us the manifestation of those promises yet. That’s because there must be a demonstration of application on our part in order for us to receive that manifestation. Pastor Ford will dive more deeply into these concepts today.

Preaching the gospel and making disciples should be the main priorities of the church. We shouldn’t allow ourselves to be distracted by people with winsome personalities, who may try to persuade us to focus on other things. Because any time we get away from the priorities that God prescribes, we’re going to have issues and problems, because we have veered from God’s agenda for the church.

Cliques are groups of people who exclude others and often follow a leader who has a charismatic personality. We often encounter them at school, work, and maybe even sometimes at church. But Christians really shouldn’t live the like that. When we look at the verses we’ll study today, we’ll understand that Christians must have unity centered on the person of Christ, and not on personalities.

Have you ever thought about how faith can be generational? As we look at the example of how Timothy’s mother and grandmother passed down their faith to him, Pastor Ford will remind us about how influential mothers and grandmothers can be in shaping the faith of their children.

Mothers have the responsibility of passing the baton of faith to the next generation. As we look at 2 Timothy 2, we’ll discover that Timothy’s mother knew that it’s not how high you jump or how loud you shout on Sunday, but it’s how straight you walk after your feet hit the ground on Monday.

As we continue these messages from Joshua chapter 1, Pastor Ford will describe how faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, does the impossible, complies with the incomprehensible, and accepts the intangible.

Perspective and perception are two key factors that affect our understanding of suffering. Our perspective governs our perception. In other words, the way you look at whatever you’re going through will determine how you perceive and comprehend it. And so it’s crucial for us to try to gain God’s perspective on our suffering, instead of looking at it from our own perspective.

God used a giant to bring David to prominence—no giant, no prominence. He used the Devil to bring Job to prominence—no Devil, no prominence. He used the cross to bring Christ to prominence. Do you see how God uses suffering? He uses it for His purposes and for His glory.

Suffering always has a purpose. As we study Revelation 13, we’ll realize that sometimes our suffering is actually related to our redemption. When God allows us to suffer, He’s not trying to destroy us. He’s trying to develop us. But in order to understand the process, we have to see suffering from God’s perspective.
