In Part 3 of my interview with Spa Executive, they asked me to expand upon my 20/80 Tomorrow Spa Model.

I believe that the Spa of Tomorrow will need to be a multi-function, multi-discipline space.

My thesis is that the Spa of Tomorrow will have only 20% of what it has today. The other 80% will be different from what we have today AND different from each other.

Spas have a bit of history when it comes to following the next shiny, new thing.

So it has been, in my opinion, when it comes to Wellness.

That's not to say that Spas should not do Wellness.

But it also doesn't mean that Spas must do Wellness.

In the Hotel of Tomorrow, where the whole system is living and breathing Wellness, does the Spa of Tomorrow really need to be the place for Wellness?

My answer...I reckon a significant one.

Both significant in terms of a business opportunity and, more importantly, significant in terms of the impact Spas can have on the quality of life of the elderly.

CALLING ALL THE WORLD'S CELEBRITY SPA THERAPISTS...

Where are you?

Do you even exist?

We have Celebrity Chefs, Celebrity Hair Stylists, Celebrity Make-up Artists, Celebrity Dog Trainers...so why shouldn't we also have Celebrity Spa Therapists?

I personally believe it can only help to raise the profile of this industry.

In a world built only social media, surely the Celebrity of Spa Therapists would be a good thing, wouldn't it?

That was a quote from Rafat Ali, Founder of Skift.

Whilst I have a lot of respect for what Rafat has done with Skift, I have to disagree with him on this one.

It is certainly true that the Podcast space has exploded in recent years and so it is certainly hard to stand out in that big, bustling crowd.

But to me, that is precisely the reason why branded podcasts are a good idea. 

Because brands know who they are and who their audience is. So they are able to craft a very specific podcast experience targeted at that audience. Which means they absolutely can break through...to their specific niche.

Here's a REAL LIFE LESSON from me to you.

I travel a lot. I have a process in place for preparing, packing, traveling, etc. so that things don't go wrong.

It's a process that's work great...until it didn't.

This has NEVER happened in 1,000+ trips to the airport...I arrived at the airport without my passport. 

When I finally finished kicking myself, I started to think about what lesson is in this for businesses. 

The lesson is...

Every business has Systems, Processes & Procedures that work great...until they don't.

The key thing is to set a Priority or Scale of Importance for these Systems & Processes.

Identify the top 3 or 4 which, if they fail, will have a critical impact on your business...then focus on them.

Amy McDonald and Diane Doster have just launched the Dying Well Initiative under the auspices of of the Global Wellness Institute.

The Dying Well Initiative’s core objective is to facilitate an ongoing, global conversation about death and dying. 

I reckon it's a really great thing they're doing.

Starbucks have $1.6 billion on there books as ‘Stored value card liabilities’.

 

Basically, this is from customers topping up their Starbucks card with money in lieu of needing to pay cash at the store when they buy their daily cup of caffeine.

 

It’s really like an interest free loan.

 

There is no regulatory obligation for them to hold that money in an escrow-type account.

 

Maybe a similar pre-paid model could help the Cash Flow situation in your business?

We've all had times in our lives where we come to a Fork in the Road.

We need to make a decision on which direction to take with our career, our relationship, our life - but we're just not sure which way is the right way.

Truth is, there's no way to be sure...until you choose one path and just go.

So go!

And don't go cautiously. Go at 100 miles an hour.

If it's the right way, you'll get there sooner.

If it's the wrong way, you'll find that out quicker and you can turn around and head back the other way before it's too late.
