  • 51- What is Capitalism's Responsibility in Suicide?

Join Pearl and Jordyn in a passionate and challenging discussion about capitalism and mental health- specifically suicide.

A surprise topic this week!  Jordyn brings this easy-peasy topic of Capitalism up to Pearl as a surprise topic for the two of them to discuss this week. Things immediately go off the rails, and the two bring up the hottest of all hot topics (kinda) within the social work world- suicide and bodily autonomy within a capitalistic society. The two talk about how Capitalism plays into the pressures of mental health and the "responsibility" to be healthy. There is some intense conversation about suicide and productivity and how those topics relate to the "responsibility" of staying healthy and happy within a society where that's not always possible. They also recognize their own role within the capitalistic society within this podcast before trying to pick the mood up off the floor at the end of this episode by sharing what they are staying slutty for this week.

  • 48 - Kitchen Counter Convos (Tricky After Dark)

A surprise! Two guests and one host. This week, Pearl is joined by her mom: Crystal Tate, and aunt: Amenda Tate. This trio has had their fair share of conversations in the kitchen sitting on countertops, talking about life. Today, they've moved the conversation (and the drinks and snacks) to the upstairs bedroom floor, while the kids play downstairs- a classic mood.

They play a game together to get comfy and prepped for the full length episode that is soon to grace your screens (ears?). The game is from the brand: Tabletop Conversations, and thier list of questions are coupled with information about inspirational women from history. SO! Education and personal exploration all rolled up into one! This episode was recorded on the first day of 2023, a cold day full of sniffles, throat clearing, and a touch more cinicism than the world wants from it's women. If that sounds appealing to you, listen in, get comfy, and get to know our guests a bit before they embark on a journey in the next full length episode, soon to be live. Enjoy!

  • 45 - Processing Grief and Loss

Join Pearl and Jordyn this week as they talk about grief and loss.

The two share their celebrations,  and a book update before diving deeper. Once they get going our hosts talk about their personal experiences and relationships with grief and loss. They discuss how they got where they are now and why they got there in the first place. Jordyn gives us all a lesson on invisible loss, and secondary loss while the two use these terms to look deeper at the loss of past versions of themselves, or dreams, and talk about the difficulty that can come with allowing yourself space to grieve all types of loss. Pearl shares a mason jar analogy as well as a pencil analogy and the two, of course, dip their toes into a discussion around the impact capitalism has on an individual's ability to grieve fully. This episode wraps up with some tips and tricks Jordyn has for us all about how one can get their grief needs met, and what that could look like.

  • 43 - Let's Talk About Sex (Toys)

Pearl and Jordyn are back this week to give their take on sex toys. We start with some book celebrations... somewhere in the intro we take a moment to collect ourselves, but trust us, sticking with the episode will pay off in the end. Pearl gives us an educational sex toy moment and then we jump into all things sex toys... which ultimately leads us into talking about the patriarchy. Your hosts answer why they use sex toy and how sex toys help. Of course, you'll hear them dive back into the rebellion of the white picket fence and taking your pleasure into your own hands. They discuss self-pleasure as a safe way to explore/feel your own body and desires. They discuss the stigma surrounding sex toys from purity culture and using sex toys within partnered sex. They talk about connection and the accessibility of sex toys both from the store and within household items. Then your hosts take a drive down PG13 lane and share their favorite toys at the moment and provide you with an X rated episode close.
