On a special Veterans Day edition of Tritoncast, Jenny and Jeff catch up with women's rowing alum Shruti Kamath. The 2016 UC San Diego grad tells us about learning to row in her native India, how she made her way to La Jolla, and how the discipline she learned from rowing has helped her in training for the United States Navy. Kamath also describes what life was like on board her ship when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in addition to describing how a return to UC San Diego just might be in the cards.

Wednesdays are for Tritoncast, and we've got a jam-packed show in Episode 19! In today's Triton Spotlight, Jeff and Jenny are joined by UC San Diego volleyball alum Chase Frishman. The 2013 UC San Diego grad grew up playing on the beaches of Orange County and now plays professionally on the AVP Beach Volleyball tour. He’s also recently begun coaching and the communications major has started a blog. How different is the sport of beach compared to indoor volleyball that he played in college as well as in Switzerland? Find out in this week's Triton Spotlight.

Later in Episode 19, we'll hear from Dr. Ebonée Williams in the Campus Spotlight. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and campus shut down in March, the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs had to pivot to a new model of engaging with students. Over the summer, Dr. Williams was hired into a new role to oversee virtual experience and peer engagement initiatives. In today’s campus spotlight, she tells us about how the VCSA office is keeping students engaged while many of us are apart.

On episode 18 of Tritoncast, Vince Tedjasaputra '09 from the track & field program is in the Triton Spotlight. A former thrower for the Tritons, Tedjasaputra tells Jenny and Jeff about his job in communications for the National Science Foundation just outside of Washington, D.C. He also shares his favorite memories from UC San Diego and the adjustment needed in his transition from sunny San Diego summers to cold Alberta winters on the way to D.C.

We're talking UC San Diego soccer on episode 17 of Tritoncast! On this week's show, Jeff and Jenny are joined by recent grads Jeff Powers '18 and Megumi Barber '19. Both now work in the Athletics department – Jeff in video production and Megumi in marketing – and they tell us what that transition to the real world has been like as well as how they’re still connecting the department with students, alumni, and fans during the pandemic. Jeff and Megumi will also reflect on their favorite memories from their time wearing the blue and gold on the pitch.

He was one of the first Black fencers in UC San Diego history and now teaches classes at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Schell tells us what life at UC San Diego was like in the 1970s and how he discovered the sport.

Later, in our Campus Spotlight, Jenny has a conversation with political science department chair Thad Kousser who reflects on his time as part of the fact finding committee that helped pave the way for the Tritons' move to Division I.

On episode 15 of Tritoncast, women's rowing senior Taylor Iantosca is in the Triton Spotlight. A native of Thailand, she shares her journey to UC San Diego. A team captain and fundraising chair of the Triton Athletes' Council, Iantosca also tells us about her love for scuba diving and her favorite places to dive.

In this week's Campus Spotlight, women's basketball alums Beth Mounier '17 and Dalayna Sampton '18 tell us about starting the Race for Change and how they are helping spread the message across basketball programs all over the country. The virtual 5k takes place in October and proceeds benefit the Black Resource Center on campus.
