Oue celebration of Women's Herstory Month continues on episode 39 of Tritoncast! Jeff and Jenny are joined by UC San Diego Hall of Famer Judy Sweet, who served as Tritons' Athletic Director for 24 years and was the first female membership president of the NCAA! We'll hear how Title IX changed women's athletics, how UC San Diego moved from competing in NAIA to Division III, and later, Division II, and so much more. We also dive into Judy's standout badminton career at the University of Wisconsin and her new love for pickleball!

March is Women's Herstory Month, and we're celebrating all month long on Tritoncast! This week, we look back at some of the strong Triton women who have joined Jenny and Jeff on the show thus far. Baseball season is here! The Tritons are set to begin their debut Division I season later this week against San Diego State. On episode 35 of Tritoncast, we’ll chat with former UC San Diego baseball shortstop Shay Whitcomb. Last year, he became the highest drafted position player in UC San Diego history when he was selected in the fifth round of the MLB draft by the Houston Astros. He tells us what that draft experience was like and how he’s been training during the pandemic. To celebrate the start of the season, Jenny and Jeff call on pinch-hitter Ted Mendenhall -- the voice of UC San Diego baseball -- to conduct this week's Triton Spotlight conversation.

She also discusses her time at the NCAA office, her disdain for winter weather, her passion for leadership development, and her role as a senior athletic administrator at Pepperdine University. With spring right around the corner, we're talking softball with former standout Maddy Lewis '19 on an all-new Tritoncast! We chat with Lewis about her stellar softball carer at UC San Diego, what it was like playing baseball growing up, and her experience transitioning from playing softball as a Triton to working in the Athletics department alongside Jenny and Jeff in communications. Plus, Lewis recalls what it was like to take part in the USA Baseball Women's National Team program.

Dr. Kritz oversees the Tritons' Athletic Performance Unit, which includes sports medicine, sports science, Triton mind, and nutrition. He tells us what it was like working with Olympic athletes in his time managing High Performance Sport New Zealand and helping that country more than double its Olympic medal count thanks in part to his guidance. Women's rowing junior Gen Cassidy is in the Triton Spotlight on episode 29 of Tritoncast. The Bay Area native chats about her experience walking on to a team and learning a new sport, balancing rowing with her demanding cognitive science major, and her YouTube vlog. In addition, she recently started her own podcast, Crew Chats with Gen, to inform listeners about what her sport is like. Sounds like Jenny and Jeff may have a future co-host on their hands!
