  • Ep. 97: Community Wide Grief Is Real, Let's Talk About It

Welcome back to the podcast, friends!

If you're new here, I'm glad you found my podcast and we're now connected!

On this week's episode of the podcast friends, I want us to have a serious conversation about how real community wide grief is, in light of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's tragically and untimely passing.

First and foremost, my heart goes out to the family of Johnny and Matthew. The pain that has been inflicted on them is unfathomable and unfair. I can't even begin to imagine what the family of these young men is now forced to go through, for the rest of their lives.

The news has shattered the world. Yes millions of us know the Gaudreau family because Johnny was an NHL player (he played with the Calgary Flames for nine seasons and the Columbus Blue Jackets for two) and allowed the world to get to know his family over the years, but both Johnny and Matthew were more than just hockey players.

It can feel weird to grieve the loss of someone you didn't personally know, so I wanted to talk about grief that gets experienced community and world wide. If someone or something has a positive impact on you then leaves this world or your life, there will be grief to process. That is nothing a person should feel weird about.

Two young men, just 31 and 29, who are husbands, fathers (to young and unborn children), brothers, sons, great friends/teammates to many, were wrongfully taken out of this world because of a careless and dangerous decision made by an irresponsible. This is what people worldwide are mourning. What happened to Johnny and Matthew is tragic, horrific, and heart shattering. Forever, millions of us will join the Gaurdeau family in grieving the loss of two incredible young men taken far too soon.

  • Ep. 96: A Conversation About Re-Wiring The Brain

Welcome back to the podcast, friends!

If you're new here, I'm glad you found my show and we're now connected!

Just like biceps and hamstrings, the brain is a muscle that we can work or train. If you struggle with self-love/appreciation, to see the good in yourself or the world, or see yourself through someone else's eyes, it doesn't have to be this way forever.

When you're really struggling it can feel like you'll never get out of that rut, learn to like yourself, or feel better than you do in said moment. I get that, because I have felt the exact same way.

If you think/talk negatively about or actually hate yourself, those thinking patterns can be altered. If you're willing to make the effort and stay consistent with the habits, tools, and activities that have been proven to help people re-wire their brain, you can re-wire your own brain.

In today's episode friends, I share a few easy activities that you can do daily! They are easy, not time consuming, free, and truly beneficial to your health!

I'm excited for you all to tune into this episode - I'm sharing openly what living in a sick body looks like for me. Living sick is hard, there is absolutely no denying that.  But, I hope by sharing my own personal experience I can be living proof to people (maybe you specifically) that living sick is not an automatic sentence to a bad, short, miserable life.

In episode 95 of this podcast you'll hear me share my own story, what made me stop playing victim to my mental/chronic illnesses, and the advice I have for people also living sick or who loves someone that lives in a sick body.

  • Ep. 94: Three Reminders/Lessons I Always Come Back To When Life Gets Hard

Welcome back to the podcast, friends!

If you're new here, I'm so glad you found my show and we're now connected!

We always have a lot going on behind closed doors, and not everything going on behind the scenes will come to the fore front. Whether you are an open book or like to keep all non-professional parts of your life private, it's a fact that we have something going on no one but the actual parties involved know about.

Life can be overwhelming, unfair, and scary. Our bodies can do both incredible and terrifying things. Society puts us under unfair pressures far too often.

No matter what my circumstance is, what's going on with my body, or how confusing/unfair life may feel there are certain lessons and reminders I always come back to in my toughest moments. These three reminders keep me going and help me stay optimistic when it gets hard to do.

  • Ep. 93: A Conversation About Meeting And Loving Our Bodies Where They're At

Welcome back to the podcast, friends!

If you're new here, I'm so glad you found my show and we're now connected!

Over the last couple of years I have dealt with different health issues - anxiety levels all over the place dealing with serious life stuff, chronic migraines kicked my ass through 2023, I have had period/hormone issues for years that still aren't sorted out. Although I live mentally and chronically ill, just before migraines took over last year I had FINALLY gotten to a place where I felt good about my overall health/body.

As someone who spent her teens and early 20's self harming, self sabotaging and treating myself like crap in any other way you can think of but finally got out of all those terrible (and dangerous habits) I'm sure you can imagine how scary my body changing was.

Fast forward to now, summer 2024. I have been free of migraines (thanks to a beta blocker I take daily) for 6 months. I am deeply grateful for that. On the other hand, i have physically changed and my physical strength is nowhere what it was a year or two ago.

In today's episode of the podcast friends, I'm sharing this journey with you and the things I currently do to be patient with my body where it's at now, and with how it looks right now so I don't mentally spiral and end up going back to old habits or negative thought patterns.

I know people of all ages who are dealing with body images issues and/or learning to love their body as it is after it has changed a lot (from all different things including illness, pregnancy, surgeries, etc), so I felt it was a good time to bring this topic up on the show! I hope you enjoy and get something good from this episode, friends!

  • Ep. 92: A Conversation About How All Grief We Feel Is Real And Valid

Welcome back to the podcast, friends!

If you're new here, I'm so glad you found my show and we're now connected!

I'm in a weird season of life right now. Things were going one way before I left for a trip to Texas June 20th - 23rd, and I have come home to everything changed. We have a new dress code and policies at my job, a relationship with someone I care about is hanging in the balance, family stuff is going on behind closed doors.

This one specific thought has been flooding my mind and heart recently, so I thought today we'd talk about it. Today friends, we're having a conversation about grief, but not the kind where we lose someone we love to a physical death. Anything that comes to an end which we care about (relationships, friendships, jobs, etc) we can grieve.

All grief is valid, can be painful, and matters. We'll talk about that, what I'm going through right now, and things that have (not) been helpful for me when grieving.

Being sad, hurt, angry something comes to an end, etc may suck, but those feelings mean what you lost or a relationship that has ended you truly care(d) about, and caring is not a bad thing.

  • Ep. 90: Understanding Types of Depression We Can Be Diagnosed With (Pt. 1 of 2)

Welcome back to the podcast friends!

If you're new here, I'm so glad you found the show and we're now connected!

Last week we spoke about different anxiety disorders us humans can be diagnosed with, and dove into signs/symptoms and treatment options for each of them. Over the next two episodes, we'll be having important conversations about the types of depression we can be diagnosed with.

Being a human who is diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, and dysthymia (a mild but long lasting form of depression) it's important we talk about these things. There are more anxiety disorders and types of depression than people realize; I believe the more people who are willing to learn about and understand this, the more compassion there could be in this world.

In this first of a two part episode we'll dive into a deep conversation about major depression, seasonal effective disorder (SAD), psychotic depression, post-partum depression, bipolar depression, and dysthymia. I hope these conversations help you understand mental illnesses better, or make struggles you may be facing make more sense.
