  • Growing Customer Loyalty with Michael Biafore of MBE Dedicated Logistics

On this episode I’m joined by Michael Biafore, CEO of MBE Dedicated Logistics. Michael started the company four years ago at the ripe young age of 21, with a single cargo van parked at his parents’ house. His focus on hauling construction equipment, particularly HVAC and plumbing, gave him a competitive edge in his market.

To overcome his youthful appearance, he focused on building in-person relationships and demonstrating his honesty and hard work, to grow his fleet to the eight trucks he operates today. And he’s still just getting started.

We discuss everything from knocking on doors to reflecting your personal values in your business.

    Key Takeaways:

(01:25) Hauling everything from construction materials to luxury goods.

(03:05) Starting with one cargo van he parked at his parents’ house.

(07:00) Winning by doing more than talking, and focusing on the small things with customer service.

(08:29) Door-knocking to win customers after his first.

(10:44) Differentiating from the big guys.

(11:46) Values are a set of rules you can’t escape from, that keep you consistent. (13:06) Accountability as a core value, and calling customers proactively to own mistakes.

(14:40) Perception is reality. Building a public image with a professional website and brand.

(17:38) The two most important qualities when hiring people.

(20:07) Best sources for finding and recruiting.

(24:41) Promoting from within reduces hiring risks.

(25:33) Leveraging ELDs and dash cams.

(27:26) Continuous learning builds a strong foundation for growth.

(28:43) Creating chain links between cities to grow.
