January 18th, 1967 Albert De Salvo, was sentenced to life in prison. Between June 14, 1962, and January 4, 1964, 13 single women between the ages of 19 and 85 were murdered in the Boston area; they were eventually tied to the man who would become to be known as the Boston Strangler.

After the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a new series of death penalty statutes in the 1976 decision Gregg v. Georgia, Gary Mark Gilmore became the first person in almost ten years to be executed in the United States. His story had immense cultural resonance at the time.

Ennis William Cosby was born April 15, 1969 to actor and comedian Bill Cosby and his wife, Camille. He was their third child and only son. On January 16, 1997, Ennis Cosby was murdered in Los Angeles, California. He was shot in the head in a failed robbery attempt.

On the morning of January 15, 1947, local Los Angeles resident Betty Bersinger was out walking with her three-year-old daughter. As they passed a vacant lot, Bersinger thought she saw a store mannequin, dumped and broken. She quickly realized that she had discovered a body, and that it had been severed into two pieces. The body would be identified at Elizabeth Short, forever known as the Black Dahlia.

Harold Shipman was born on January 14th, 1946. Like any child, he was close with his mother who died of lung cancer when he was 17.In the later stages of her disease, she had morphine administered by a doctor. Shipman witnessed his mother's pain subside, despite her terminal condition, until her death. This later became Shipman's own modus operandi, earning his moniker, Dr. Death.

The White House Farm murders took place in Essex, England, during the night of August 6 and 7th, 1985. Nevill and June Bamber, along with their adoptive daughter, Sheila Caffell, and Sheila's six-year-old twin sons, Daniel and Nicholas, were shot and killed inside their farmhouse. The only surviving member of June and Nevill's immediate family was their adoptive son, Jeremy Bamber.

It was in the early morning hours when LAPD’s West Bureau Division and Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a fire in a multi-unit house in the Pico Union district. One person was found dead inside. On January 12th, 2018 the body of the deceased person was identified as Viccky Gutierrez.
