Mary, the only surviving legitimate child of King James V of Scotland, was six days old when her father died and she acceded to the throne. 45 years later, on 1 February 1587, Queen Elizabeth signed the death warrant and Mary Queen of Scots was executed for treason and beheaded on February 8, 1587.

Christine Ann Diefenbach was a shy, artistic ninth-grader at Intermediate School 217 in Queens County. She loved drawing and horses. In a time when teenagers were gushing over Tom Cruise, she was fan of Wayne Newton and David Hasselhoff, and would pour over the Sunday newspaper’s ​Parade magazine looking for articles about her idols. She was murdered on February 7th 1988, in Richmond Hill, Queens County, New York. Her case remains unsolved.

On February 6th, 1906, a young African American man named Ed Johnson went to trial for the rape of Nevada Taylor and was sentenced to death, but Justice John Marshall Harlan of the United States Supreme Court had issued a stay of execution. To prevent delay or avoidance of execution, a mob broke into the jail where Johnson was held and lynched him.

Joseph McStay and his wife Summer lived in Fallbrook, California, with their sons Gianni (age 4) and Joseph Jr. (age 3). Joseph owned and operated Earth Inspired Products, a company that built decorative fountains, and Summer was a licensed real estate agent. The McStays disappeared from their home on February 4, 2010, leaving eggs on the counter and pets unattended. Did they leave to start a new life, or was there foul play involved?

On 3 February 2003, Lana Clarkson, a B-movie actress met famous record producer Phil Spector in a Hollywood nightclub and went back to his place for drinks. Within an hour she was shot in the face in the hallway of Spector’s Pyrenees Castle in Alhambra, a suburb of East Los Angeles. She died immediately. Phil denied pulling the trigger. But a jury at Los Angeles Superior Court saw things differently.

On February 2, 2009, a woman walking a dog found a human bone on the West Mesa, and reported it to police. Simon John Ritchie died at some point in the night of February 1st 1979. Better known Sid Vicious, he was an English bassist and vocalist of the infamous band, the Sex Pistols.

The Shell Lake Massacre is well known in Saskatchewan and throughout Canada but this episode is about a second massacre in the Saskatchewan area less than a year later. In Buffalo Narrows, 7 members of the Pederson family were killed by an axe murderer on January 30th, 1969.
