On Tuesday, October 19, 2021 South Carolina Judge Clifton Newman made a shocking decision in denying Alex Murdaugh bond. Murdaugh was arrested in Orlando, Florida Thursday and charged with two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses related to the Gloria Satterfield case, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
In this special breaking edition of the Murdaugh Murders Podcast, Investigative Journalist Mandy Matney discusses the bond hearing for Alex Murdaugh, who is accused of stealing millions from the Satterfield family. 
Prosecutor Creighton Waters detailed how Murdaugh allegedly set up a fake Forge account to misappropriate $3.4 million from the Satterfield settlement. Despite Murdaugh's defense team arguing for a personal recognizance bond, citing his recovery from addiction, Judge Clifton Newman denied bond, citing Murdaugh's danger to himself and the community. The judge also ordered a psychiatric evaluation. The Satterfield family's attorneys argued for serious financial restrictions on Murdaugh's assets.

On Thursday, October 14, Alex Murdaugh was arrested on two felony charges related to the Gloria Satterfield Case. Those charges of obtaining property by false pretenses, each carrying up to 10 years in prison.
In episode 13 of The Murdaugh Murders Podcast, Investigative Journalist Mandy Matney speaks with Satterfield family attorney Eric Bland about what the charges mean for his clients — the victims — and what is next for Alex Murdaugh. Will he be able to get out of this?
The charges stem from a $3.5 million settlement for Gloria Satterfield's death, which Murdaugh allegedly misappropriated. Eric Bland, representing Satterfield's sons, expressed relief but criticized the limited initial charges.
Bland believes more federal charges, including mail fraud and money laundering, will be filed. The new developments also suggest Murdaugh's law firm and associates may know more than they are letting on. A bond hearing for Murdaugh is scheduled for October 19 in Richland County, where he may face stricter conditions.

Investigative journalist Mandy Matney discusses the Murdaugh family's involvement in the 2019 boat crash on Archers Creek near Parris Island that killed Mallory Beach and the subsequent investigation Shocking new audio evidence was recently released by SCDNR and we take a deep dive into the implications of that evidence.

On this episode, we dive into dash cam videos and depositions, that suggest a potential cover-up by law enforcement and the Murdaugh family. 

Paul Murdaugh's blood test revealed he was 3.5 times over the legal limit. Anthony Cook, a passenger, identified Paul as the driver, but this was not reflected in official reports. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and SC DNR's initial handling of the case is criticized for bias. Matney also mentions ongoing legal actions and the impact of the Murdaugh family's influence on the criminal justice system.

On June 7, 2021, Paul and Maggie Murdaugh were found murdered on their 1,700-acre property, Moselle, near Hampton, South Carolina.
Alex Murdaugh called 911 at 10:07 PM, reporting his wife and son were shot. The 911 call was released six weeks later. Paul was shot twice, and Maggie was shot multiple times. SLED took over the case due to potential conflicts of interest with the local sheriff's office. No arrests have been made, and speculation surrounds Alex Murdaugh as a person of interest.
 
We look at how the Colleton County Sheriff's office quickly recused itself from the investigation and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) took over the case. In a previous episode, we explored depositions and audio evidence from the 2019 boat crash in which the recently murdered Paul Murdaugh was eventually charged with Boating Under the Influence and causing the death of 19 year old Mallory Beach.
