Stan Ritchie went from raising beef cattle and burley tobacco to running Stan's Lawn Care, an 8-person mowing, snow removal and lawn application business in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. He has never bought a single account: it all started with one Exmark on a trailer and grew by word of mouth.
Stan breaks down how he finds and keeps good help with guaranteed 40-hour weeks and high school co-op students. He explains why he added a 5–10% fuel surcharge with zero client pushback, and how bulk salt sales and lawn applications add cash flow. He also covers why he put a new engine on a 3,000-hour Exmark instead of buying new.
