Every week Republicans tell us what they stand for.

They want to repeal Social Security and Medicaid.

They want to eliminate body autonomy.

They want to limit access to voting.

And the list of plans to marginalize, minimize and dehumanize fellow tax paying Americans is very long. But we can change that by electing people who will look out for your civil rights.

In the United States, women are 27.5% of members of Congress, 31% of Statewide elected officials, 31% of State Legislators and 30.5% of Municipal officeholders.

Yet, we are 50.5% of the nation's population. Ladies, we are underrepresented and that is one of the many reasons why we are seeing legislation stripping us of our reproductive health rights.

This week we will have three wonderful women, running at different levels of government discussing the importance of our presence, how women change the conversation and how you can help them win. This is our government even when Republicans try to deny your eligibility.

After Labor Day, all the races heat up. Do you know who is running in your district? Turn Left brings you the candidates who will protect women's reproductive rights, protect Trans kids and work to keep qualified and often exceptional teachers here in our state. Public education is essential to an educated society. Without an educated populous in Indiana, high paying jobs will not come to our state. We have already witnessed Intel and Eli Lilly opting to set up shop in other states. . Not sure why Republicans don't get that...or maybe they do and they want to keep you in financial distress.

Indiana's 2nd congressional district became essentially an open seat with the untimely and tragic passing of Rep. Warlorski. With a concerted effort, we have an opportunity to flip this seat with Paul Steury and reduce the number of insurrectionist sympathizers in Washington. And Jocelyn Vare is no stranger to making history by being the first Democrat elected to the Fishers City Council. Now, let's send her to the statehouse to fight for us.

As Democrats, if we want to create the changes we need in our state, we must get behind and support all candidates at every level of government. We can't afford to write off any offices. Donating to campaigns, making calls and knocking doors to spread the message that we, Democrats, deliver. Everyday we are proving we care about people and want to improve their lives through the policies we write and support.

Did you see what happened in Kansas? Coming together to support women is a movement that we all can participate in. Women are ready to lead!

At present, we as Democrats do not hold any statewide offices and the decisions that are being made at that level impact us all and yet we have no say. But we have the opportunity to change that. Join me this week when I chat with Jessica McClellan who is running to be our next State Treasurer. Learn about who she is and how she will help move Indiana forward.

Democracy is on the ballot!

This week we are watching the State Senate debate if a woman or girls seeking reproductive health care should actually obtain it. We listened to people with passion tell legislators how they want to give the government the control to limit access to medical procedures that could save lives. Body autonomy and the rights to privacy are in jeopardy. Ask yourself, will a 16 year old in crisis know they need and how to obtain an affidavit? There is little to no concern for the trauma women will experience. We know this to be a fact because we are not doing enough now to reign in the rape culture.

And as we ask Hoosier to turn out the vote to elect people who respect women enough to make their own medical decisions, we must protect the ballot by electing the right County Clerks.

We have no time for performative politics, it is time to get behind all of our candidates and support their efforts to represent their communities. That includes supporting and getting behind Black women. What is often overlooked when it comes to Black women, we govern with everyone in mind, even those who exist outside of our direct communities. Our American experiences make us unique community leaders. That is what elected leaders are supposed to do, but for some...like old men who think they know more of what women should do with their bodies than women...they often leave the historically marginalized groups behind. We have an opportunity, with our votes, to add more balance to every level of our citizen government.

It is very difficult listening to a bunch of old men who have yet learned to navigate around a woman's body, dictating what we should be able to do with it. We need more free thinking women elected to office, ready and willing to stand up to people who would whole-heartedly reject any policy that restricts a man's body. That is not equality. And we need these women at every level of government representing Hoosiers.

Many of us are appalled by the direction of our nation. We feel we are heading back in time and there doesn't seem to be a concentrated effort to stop the bleeding. But that is not true. We have elected officials in our statehouse now, who are working hard every day to help keep our right to privacy intact, educate our children, pay our teachers and improve the quality of life for Hoosiers. But Republicans know how powerful and beloved our only LGBTQ+ elected General Assembly member is and they are coming for his seat.  Here is an opportunity for you to galvanize around Sen. Ford and help him win his re-election. Join us this week when we spend time talking with Sen. Ford about his first term, the upcoming special session and his plans after being re-elected.

July 6th the special session begins and Gov. Holcomb is on board with removing your rights to privacy and body autonomy. And if Republicans regain control of the U.S. Congress, they will do the same on a federal level. Justice Thomas said so. The same party that tells us the January 6th insurrectionists where tourists believe they are the best people to determine what you should be able to do in your home, who you do it with and what to do with your body. Based on their judgment they shouldn't have that kind of power. This week on Turn Left we will chat with candidates looking to make a change in Washington and in Indiana.

We have an opportunity to make real changes for Indiana. Get to know the candidates who would be better policy makers than anyone the Republican put forth.
