TV Pilot’s License

Give us some more, time in a dream, give us a pod, that we can stream. It’s time to go back to school! It’s NBC’s weirdo tentpole comedy, Community!

While you can probably take a wild guess that Max, Geoff, and Rich are all big fans and that they will just gush over this show. There are a lot of things to unpack. With tremendous cast and writing comes a complicated legacy and bizarre network choices that make this show rise to peak fandom on uncertain ground. While it’s easy to look back on this truly A++ cast and say “duh of course this is a hit” this show took a lot of chances and was the launching pad of some massive careers. Donald Glover, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Joel McHale, John Oliver, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Audi, Jim Rash, Dan Harmon, and Chevy Chase… hard to imagine all those big names together at once now.

The guys talk exposition excellence, casting choices, bottle episodes, and more, so make sure to find la biblioteca and join our study group on Community.

I know how we can get this secret, with sex! It’s the Americans, the late Cold War spy thriller show based on real life experiences of a CIA agent turned screen writer. Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys play The Jennings, the average American family, house in the suburbs, two kids, hockey games and report cards and murdering enemies of the Soviet Union. The American Dream!

Who better to chat about this with than returning champion, Bachelor Zone host, Kommandante Michael Wahle. It’s one of his favorites and we can see why. The Americans is cunning, fast, subtle, ambitious so heat up your borscht and chill down your vodka.

Vampires? Teens? History Homework? It must be 2009 babyyyyy! This week is the CW's best performing pilot of all time. It's the Vampire Diaries!

The hit show that's not taking advantage of the momentum of Twilight at all. The show is based on the eponymous book series by L.J. Smith and ran for 171 episodes. (That's a lotta blood suckin') The boys cover the banging soundtrack that's straight from your iPod mini and a teenage swoon-worthy cast. Vampire Diaries centers around Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), an orphaned teenager living in Mystic Falls Virginia as she slowly discovers her own powers while falling in love with a vampire 140 year older than her (problematic much??). Whether you're a massive fan of the show, or if you're brand new to the Diaries, follow along, we want to hear what you think of the pilot!
